  • Eyes feel better

I have had dry eyes for over 3 years. They have been so bad that my cornea tore at work.

I have had some success and I wanted to share it with everyone because I know we all want to hear that it might get better some day. So here it is.

I have had plugs for 1 1/2 years. I have had 2 specialists say they could not see two of my 4 plugs, but my doctor insisted they were there because they were internal plugs. I went to a new doctor and she could not see the plugs and wanted to put new plugs in and over with other plugs they indeed were still there. My eyes almost immediately felt different. I had moisture pool in my eyes, what a new concept.

Then I went on 100% serum drops. I started at 20%, then 50%. I think the 100% feels best. Sometimes I put the drops in every few minutes, but most often it is every couple of hours. The longer I go without putting in the drops the more often I have to put them in when I start putting them in again. Also it depends on the environment I am in. Forced air is really hard on my eyes as is watching movies in the theater, but not so much at someone’s home. Don't know why, forced air perhaps.

I still wear my eye moisture chamber goggles and I know a lot of you would rather die than wear these dorky glasses in public, and I felt that way in the beginning, but they make sure a huge difference I really don't care what anyone thinks about them anymore.

I have found that if I eat a balanced diet and don't eat too much sugar that helps also I need to stay hydrated, so drinking a lot of water is important. The last thing is stress, if I have stress in my life even a little bit, like if I get in a fight with my husband then my eyes bother me a lot more. If I can stay stress free I feel way better.

I have had previous doctors suggest scalar lens, but this current doctor seems to think that the plugs and 100% serum might be enough to get me out of the goggles. Sometimes I can go with the goggles for a while, but I have to in a safe environment, no forced air or heavy odors. But overall I am way better than before.

I hope this helps some of you.

    Hi Trac!

What wonderful news! I am soo glad to hear that pieces of the dry eye puzzle are falling into place for you. Good for you for wearing the goggles. I have never noticed that they have made much of a difference, except for in extremely irritating conditions, wind, dry air etc.

I would have to agree on the stress part. I know that when I am looking forward to a particularly relaxing time, the eyes feel a lot better. Sometimes even the smallest stress trigger can set the eyes off.

I'm glad you're feeling better Trac! I remember what a hard time you were having last year, when I was also struggling with my eyes. Thanks for sharing info on what helped.

Thank you for sharing good news! It gives so much encouragement to all of us, I have found that I'm being helped also by some changes I've made, I'm newly into these changes, and hope to post soon about some good news I agree that stress plays a big role, I also have Alopecia Areata, which is very much effected by the stress in my life, I would have never have thought it at first, but I'm beginning to wonder if stress didn't create the whole mess to begin with. Time and maybe some difficult decisions are in my future.
