  • Much, much BETTER now - NAET

    Hello fellow dry eye sufferers!

I've been lurking in this forum for quite some time and finally decided to register to share my story.

My dry eyes started back in 2004 when I was still living in the Philippines. I have myopia and used to wear contact lenses every day up until I had DES. It was intially diagnosed as keratitis, and I was given several ointments and drops until finally I found a Dr. who specializes in corneal abreasions. She prescribed doxycycline and that cleared up my eyes...but since that occurrence my dry eyes never went away and my eyes have been very sensitive (I would get styes, red eyes for no reason, light sensitivity,etc.).

My frustration with this condition grew more and more last year, when my right eye (n top of the DES) kept getting an infection. For no apparent reason, I would wake up one day every month last year with my right eye very red, with crusty eyelids, and I almost could not see out of that right eye. My ophthalmologists could not figure out why this is happening, until I suggested to her that my dr. in the Philippines gave me antobiotics before and that did me well. So I started taking antibiotics Jan-Sep last year just to get by.

I knew taking antibiotics was not good for my body, so I did some research and went to see several holistic doctors, who gave me nutritional supplements, homeoptahic treatments, etc. None of those helped my condition. I was still doing a lot of research during this time and stumbled upon NAET. It's an allergy desensitizing technique that's usually coupled with acupuncture treatments. I won't try to explain it here since I might sound a little cukoo, so just google it. :-)

The Dr. who has been giving me the NAET treatments is a Chinese acupuncturist. Through NAET I found out that my body was "allergic" to basic vitamins /minerals (Calcium, Vit C, Vit B, etc.) so my immune system was not working properly and could not fight the infections. I've gone through about 15 treatments already, inclcuding liver, kidney, virus, bacteria, etc. It's a little pricey, I pay $70 per treatment and she can only treat one item per session. I do think it's absolutely worth it though, since I haven't had any infection on my eyes, and the dryness has been reduced by 50% since my first treatment in Dec 2011. *keeping my fingers crossed!*

Sorry if this is such a long post! NAET might not work for everyone, but for desperate sufferers like me it might be worth a try to see if it will help you. There are certified NAET practitioners online to see if there's one near your area.

Hope this helps! Let me kow if you have any questions.

After looking into this, NAET very much intrigues me. It might be something I may pursue. Thank you.

Yes, at least give it a try. I was pretty much desperate for anything when I stumbled upon it and thankfully it was worth the cost and effort. Good luck!

Can you tell me if they are able to treat seasonal allergies as well with this treatment?

I believe so. My Dr. actually tested me for environmental allergies (pollen) before and I tested strong on that so I didnn't need treatment. You could ask the NAET practitioner you are planning to see and tell him/her about your potential issues, they can probably tell you if they've treated patients with the same issue before. Do you think the seasonal allergy is the cause of your DES?

I don't believe seasonal allergy is the cause of it, but a pollen allergy is causing my eyes to produce mucous which builds under one of my scleral lenses (PROSE) making me unable to see in that eye. I've been taking an allergy pill and using a non-preservative eye dry drop (which I get made) to combat this. I've seen almost every type of specialist available in the past 12 years but I've never tried to attack this thing from an allergy standpoint (food, chemical). By reading some of the allergy posts, I became convinced that some people may be exposing themselves to things that they aren't even aware that they are allergic to. Thanks to your initial post, and after reading some other articles online, I have decided to book an appointment with one of the supposedly "top" NAET specialists in my city on Monday. We'll see how it goes.

eye_allergy-kids --- Not sure what you mean...I am not promoting any site. Thanks for the link, I do believe there is a link between dry eyes (or any disease for that matter) to the stomach. I've heard that 80% of our immune system is based on our gut (digestive system). Not sure if you've heard of the GAPS protocol.

Reggie ---- Let us know how it goes, hopefully the NAET doctor can help you. Goodluck!

I've had one consultation and 3 follow up visits with the NAET specialist (Dr. Rad in Toronto) and I'm not sure if I'm going to continue. Don't believe I have benefited from it at all. In fact, my allergies seemed to be much worse after the first treatment although I believe it was just a coincidence. On the last visit, he asked me to bring a tissue with my tears on it for my next appointment so he could mix it up in a vial and use it to treat me. He previously asked me to bring in a photo of myself wearing glasses (not sure what he wanted to observe and I didn't bother asking), and he asked me to call my old optical centre to find out what contact lenses I was first wearing 12 years ago when the dry eye first began. He wanted to find out the composition of the contact lenses so he could mix it up in a vial and use it to treat me. Right now, I just don't know about all this.

Reggie, I'm so sorry it didn't work out for you. A few questions though, did your NAET dr. treat you on the 10 basics first (vitamins, minerals, eggs)? They are supposed to start on these first before treating you on virus, bacteria, pollen, grains, etc. This is to make sure that the body is already in a stable state and is able to absorb the vitamins and minerals from food, which will further help your body heal more quickly. When my acupuncturist first tested me, I was weak on almost all the basic vitamins/minerals (Calcium, Vit C, etc.) so we had to work on those first. And then she went on to other stuff like virus, bacteria, eyes, liver, kidney, etc. I've had more than 15 treatments so far, I think. I don't see her every week anymore, though unlike before since it can be a little costly. But it has helped me A LOT.

I believe he did. I remember him saying that I didn't test positive for any minerals, chemicals, and metals but I never head him mention anything about eggs. He wasn't the type of guy that was good at explaining everything that he was trying to accomplish, and also felt that he had no plan moving forward except that I should keep coming in every week and see how it goes. At this point, I didn't want to invest any more funds than I already did. Still don't believe that my seasonal allergies got any better.

Lucky, I'm curious what specific treatments your NAET doctor gave you. Which herbs, vitamins, minerals, medications, ect.? It'd give us a better idea of what specifically has been helping your dry eye symptoms.

My acupuncturist gave me Nutrametrix supplements (Vit C, B, and other minerals) while I was doing the treatment. With NAET they test you for the basic deficiencies first, and I think I tested "weak" on 5 out of 10 of those. Only 1 treatments is done per session, for example, your first visit she will treat you for Vit C. And then the next Vit B. SO on and so forth (so it can get pricey).

I still have dry eyes, but it's better now than what it was before (I don't get the infections anymore). I haven't seen my NAET doctor in several months now, as I feel like I've reached a plateau in terms of getting improvement. Planning to see a functional medicine/AK doctor next.

Thanks for your response. I've recently noticed some improvement in my eye burning after taking a highly bio-active vitamin B complex for a few weeks, but I've also been taking acetylcarnitine which may have played a role.

This is the b-complex I've been taking: http://www.swansonvitamins.com/swans...bility-60-caps
