  • Plugs + Supplement = Progress

Had PRK last November and have been battling severe night dry eye since. Pretty much every night without fail my eyelids adhere to my eyes, sometimes resulting in erosions. I had lower plugs put in about ten days ago. They were a little uncomfortable for about three days and then settled down nicely. On the same day I started taking a new supplement "Fish, Flax Seed and Borage Oil". In addition it also contains Evening Primrose Oil. So it's a dose of Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9 all in one capsule. It's by "Nature's Bounty" or something like that. I got it at Wal-Mart.

I didn't notice any difference for the first few days, but after about five days I had a night in which my eyes did not get stuck. That was followed by two nights in which they did, and now the past two nights in a row my eyelids have not gotten stuck. So three of the past five nights have been good. I don't know if it's the plugs, the supplement, or the combination of the two, but I'm encouraged. It's the best things have been since the surgery last November.

Another thing - my eyes, especially my left eye, always had some veiny redness around the iris. In fact, one of the reasons I had PRK is because I was blaming it on my contact lenses. Since getting the plugs and taking the "Fish, Flax Seed and Borage Oil" capsules the redness has decreased markedly.

I'm hoping this is a sign that things are going to turn and not just some anomaly.

Further update to this - I think may eyes may be healed!

Now six weeks since lower plugs were put in and I started my supplements regime. I'm seven straight days of pretty much normalcy. No eyelids sticking at night, no erosions, no drops needed to get my eyes unstuck in the morning. I'm continuing the supplements religiously, and I put a small dab of Muro 128 ointment in each eye at bed time. That's it. I'm pretty much off of drops - just once or twice a day.

The tide turned 9/4/12 when I had the lower plugs put in and started my supplement recipe. Six weeks later and I think I'm almost home!

It's been 11 months since the PRK procedure that induced this problem. Maybe it's just natural healing with time, maybe it's the plugs and supplements. I don't know, but it feels good and hopefully my healing can give hope to some others out there that have similar cases.

thats good news, remember that nutrition is the key to heal dry eye. You maybe just let your body heal itself!
