  • My first post in 2.5 years as I have been symptom free until last week from Bleph.

    Hello,
I feel tremendous guilt at not being on here for so long.
I had Blepharitis for 2 years, mainly stinging/burning in my eyes. From June 2009 to June 2011
Tried all the traditional things like drops/steroid drops lid care, blephasol, Thera tears etc.
What stopped the burning was six months of homeopathy and the therapy she gave me long with the little pills and the Euphrasia tincture in and eyewash twice a day. I then carried on the eye wash for a year after, finally stopping in Summer of 2012.
I have had perfect, perfect eyes up until last week when I unwittingly exposed my eyes to adhesive fumes for about 20 minutes. Now the burning is back so here I am.
I have straight away begun the same therapy as before but my homeopath is on Sabbatical so I have seen another lady and I just have to keep faith.

However, to all those suffering with burning eyes, I am proof that some sufferers do go into remission.
    Bette

The best part of this post is that you were normal for what... almost 2 years? That's amazing! Wish I could be so lucky!

    You'll get back there soon.

Thank you. 2 and a half brilliant years.
And I think I did because I completely believed in my homeopath. Completely believed her when she said we would get it under control.

She advised some new foods but I was already green juicing, no sugar including fruit. Nuts, wild salmon etc. lots of supplements. NAC, resveratrol etc but I'd been on those a while. I believe, blind faith, the therapy nature if the sessions and the Euphrasia eye was did the trick.

What brand did you use? Curious...

Thanks so much for sharing by the way!

This is the company.https://www.helios.co.uk. The tincture is called Euphrasia officinalis. Here is some more info http://abchomeopathy.com/r.php/Euphr. I went into the Helios store in covent Garden last week and asked for the tincture. I put a drop into cooled boiled water in two separate eye baths. My homeopath used to order it for me but you can just call them up and say what it is for and they will sell you it. Like getting a prescription. Costs about £6/£7 for a small bottle.
It took about 5 months of twice a day use to begin to feel marked improvements so it's not a quick fix like FML was but it does not hurt you. It does sting a bit the first few times but then it's fine.
Get two eye baths and put in a jug then pour boiling water over them so they overflow, this way I feel I am sterilising them.
When they are cool, add a drop of the tincture and hold over each eye. I do it for a count of 60/90. Then splash face and eyes with lots of clean water. I began this in jan 2011and by June I was burning free. Though I continued to do it for another year, afraid if I stopped burning would return. Along with this I saw. The homeopath once a month and she gave me homeopath remedies for the burning and eczema which was very bad on my eyelids(caused by the hot eye bags). I am not sure which remedies were for the burning or the eczema however. But I took staphysagria twice a month for a few months.
I kept a calendar where I would colour my bad days orange and good days green and write any comments on there rather than writing anything in my own diary to try to keep the eye thing out of my normal life. Every month eventually I saw more green than orange and so did she. I also took supplements. Thera tears, NAC(viridian), Resveatrol, starflower oil and turmeric and followed a good diet! green juicing, green veg! wild salmon etc and I was able to keep up exercise and the gym.
                So that's what I did.

                    Hi Bette,
What strength for the Euphrasia? Hope you feel better soon!

No strength is listed on my bottle. If you talk to someone at Helios they are very knowledgable.
                      Thank you.

Something I have learnt from this relapse after 2 and a half years completely symptom free with no drops and full make up not a problem ( I'm an actress so that's a bonus) is that I had begun to say I "used" to have Blepharitis. In fact I have chronic Blepharitis and the idea is to get it back into remission. Also I had thought I was so careful using specialist makeup, doing my own make up for television work and avoid chemicals near my eyes. The one thing I did not think of was the adhesive fumes from a glue designed to apply prosthetics on skin would be a problem because I really thought my eyes were normal now. But what I have to remember in the future is that I need to know all the possible triggers. Smoke, smog, bleach fumes, glue etc etc could put me at risk of a relapse.
Also I want to say again. I had two years of symptoms of Blepharitis and tried many things that many of the people on here have tried and I was in terrible despair. My saviour was a lady who treated my whole life up to the point she met me so we were addressing grief, loss and a myriad of other things and the long sessions of talking/crying to this person helped immensely. I always came away with hope. It was slow but sure.
Homeopathy and therapy cured the burning in my eyes for. 2.5 years and will again.
Sadly she could not clear the eczema from my eyelids(which came as a result of heated flax eyebags) and after a year of trying, the homeopathic way, I got badly infected with a staph infection and had to go to see a dermatologist and only after a few on/off months of 2.5 steroid creams on my eyelids, (I took a second infection later on) but the burning stayed away and eventually I was left red lidded but free from burning and eczema. 2 years on my lids are almost back to a normal colour so I am going to be very careful this time with only gentle eye massage.
I am going to keep you posted on here of my self treatment and the new homeopathy remedies given to me to see how I get on getting back to my remission state.
Currently I am fighting the feelings of fear and sadness which are a memory from my first encounter with this condition but I know that I beat it before so I will again. Interestingly another friend had the same prosthetic fitting with the adhesive at the same time and she is fine. And the make up lady obviously is fine. Sensitive Sally I obviously am. :-/

Thank you for coming back to update. I also suffer from blepharitis and used to be in the beauty business until this happened, makeup was my passion. I am now basically at a low paying job I hate, when I have many years university! So frustrating!! I am going for a consult with a naturopath Wednesday. Can you please name the "pills" she told you to take so maybe I can ask about it in the consultation?!

I am really happy to hear about a story where someone went into remission that long!

I was on this but that was after a 3 hour initial consultation and it suited my personal needs and was more of an overall emotional support. I was on a pill twice a week for many months along with the Euphrasia eye bath.
