  • cornea specialist for RCE in MA

Can anyone recommend someone for me? I live near Chelmsford, MA area and I have to believe there are some good docs between here and Boston.

I have been suffering with RCE for about 5 years. I "thought" that I had it under control - no episodes in 2.5 years, and now I have just had 2 'good sized' episodes in less than 2 months time. The first episode caused me to miss work for a full week. The second episode - today is my first day out of work. I am sitting here with my eye-patch typing a quick not here, and then back to resting my eye.

I have never seen a specialist for this, so I really have no idea of what caused the initial episode, or why it is acting up again now after being dormant for so long. I am tired of suffering through this, and would like to know what else I can do.

I already sleep with a humidifier, use genteal drops in both eye nightly, take fish-oil and flaxseed oil daily, and try to avoid dry environments...I'd like to take it to the next level and get some medical advice...

    Hi!

I would suggest that you see Dr. Stephen Foster, whose office is located in Cambridge, Mass and his telephone number is 617-621-6377.

He is not a cornea specialist but is a ocular immunologist (inflammatory conditions of the eye) and is considered one of the top specialists in his field. My eye doctor did his fellowship under Dr. Foster.

I would suggest you call his office and if he is unable to handle your case, they will refer you to a doctor who can.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

    Pam

I have seen Dr. Reza Dana, who is the head of the cornea service at Mass Eye and Ear. He's a little dry (if you will excuse the pun ) but clearly a very smart guy and his research is prominent in the dry eye world.

I've also seen Dr. Peter Rapoza at Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston who was very personable and is a cornea specialist.

He has since referred me to Dr. Jason Rothman, also of OCB, who is a dry eye "specialist" of sorts. I believe he only works out of the Beverly Hospital office, though. I have yet to see him, but probably will in the near future.

      Hope this helps....
