  • Need your help

As I write this note my eyes are dry and burning. I have been suffering for 2 years. For the past year I have been on Restasis with Systane. So far no relief. I have tried other drops and the only ones that seem to help are Soothe XP and Severe Gel Tears. My doctor says I have plenty of tears when he does my tear measurement. Next he wants to put plugs in my eyes. Is there anything else that could help me? I have the feeling my tears are poor quality and I have adequate amount of these poor quality tears.

Does anyone know the name of a good Corneal Specialist, in North Miami Beach, Fl? One that takes AVMED Medicare Preferred. I spoke to Rebecca and she feels I need a specialist to check out my Meibomian Glands. My present opthalmologist evidently does not seem to be interested in finding the cause of my dry eyes and burning eyes. Because I have enough tears and my eyes are not red he thinks I should be okay but I am not. I went to him last Wednesday and he has decided to put plugs in my tear drains but as yet has not contacted my insurance company for authorization. He isn't feeling the pain I am evidently so why rush. Does anyone know Dr.Norman Sanders? He is the only one I found who might be qualified.

I recommend getting out of your area, and going to a specialist. The number one doctor in America as rated by his peers is Dr. Steven ****** in Tampa, FL. He specializes in dry eye. I suffered for three years before I found him. He has a map of the world where people have come to see him. His office is located near the airport. He has a hotel setup to take you to his office. Your first visit will be about 2-3 hours, because of extensive testing that he does. Your eyes and your life are worth it.

He has a brochure in his office with his bio in it. I reread the quote, and I would like to clarify it. It says, "Since 1999, Dr. ****** has been recognized by his peers through his selection as a "Best Doctor in America", a list of the finest practitioners in every medical and surgical specialty." I just had an appointment today with him. I had ocular resurfacing to correct problems with dry eye. He grafted amniotic membrane tissue onto my conjuntiva after taking out a large mass of veins and a SLK. In addition to this, he invented a procedure called Intraductal Meibomian Gland Probing to mechanically open blocked meibomian glands. To this date, this is the only procedure that will clear the glands. After he clears the glands, he looks for reasons behind the meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). In my case, I had bad spots on my conjunctiva on each eye. I had to have surgery on each eye to correct this. Thirdly, he is working with pharma. companies for new drugs to keep the glands open by adjusting the flow of oil in the glands. There are two types of oil, the outer wall of the gland, and the inner oil.
I am so glad I found him. I had been suffering for 3 years with eyedrop therapy. He is trying to raise the awareness of the probing procedure. He said it will probably take 10 years before all doctors get onboard with it. I'm glad you have this sight to help other people. That is my only goal.
