This is the first I've heard of this.

      Anyone familiar with this?

Collagen shields have been available in the US for about 20 years. Their primary use was for post surgical application of drugs without giving an injection to eye. Bausch and Lomb is no longer making them, only OASIS makes them now. These shields are not "optical grade" material. Meaning the patients vision is compromised when wearing them. I am aware of a couple of doctors who are hydrating them with an HA tear and using them on PRK patients to see if the corneas heal quicker and with minimum discomfort.

Typically their usefulness would be with damaged corneas from wounds.
