If anyone in the NW is looking for a great cornea specialist go see Dr. Chamberlain at the Casey Eye Institute. He has been wonderful to work with trying everything possible to help me with my burning red eyes. He is not dismissive in the least and will continue to work with you to get you comfortable. I'm still battling my pain but I believe we're moving in the right direction. He's a huge supporter of autologus serum drops. There are few options in the NW (from what I hear) but I think he's been great.

I have been going to Andrew Romanowski for nearly the whole time he has been in practice, complaining of dry eyes the entire time. Just last week I decided to research dry eyes and discovered he has done nothing for me. I guess it's time for a change.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and this damaged or destroyed my tear gland in mainly my left eye- this resulted in dry eye intense pain and cornea damage. I have used the autologus serum drops and they do help. What has dramatically worked is scleral contact lenses. for the first time in nearly 3 years, I can report no pain and greatly improved (all the way to 20/20) vision. I still use the serum tears from time to time before I put the lens in.

Thank you Martz for the recommendation. I haven't seen your doctor but have been to the Casey Eye Institutute and seen others, like Dr. Mathers who I was told was the best for dry eyes. I also went to Eye Health NW, I too have seen Dr. Andrew Romanowski. When he put my plugs in I thought I would die. When I lost them and had another doctor at the same clinic put them in, I didn't hardly feel a thing. From piercing sharp pain like someone is pulling at your tear duct with a sharp instrument, to "it's over? really?" I like my doc there now, though other than eyedrops they don't offer anything else. Will autologus serum drops help me? Are they expensive? How does one get those? Thanks!

Rachael Garrett at Casey Eye Institute in Portland (waterfront location) - She is knowledgeable, has many other dry eye patients and showed a real interest in helping. She also listened well, was compassionate, and did not rush the appointment. My visit with her was quite refreshing, after several appointments with other "corneal specialists" and eye doctors who were truly clueless and/or showed no real understanding of the complexities of the problem or its various treatments.

Dr. Garrett has no openings for 5 months and Dr. Chamberlain does not see dry eye patients any longer His focus is some kind of surgery I forget. This is what I was told last week.
