Meibomian Gland Dysfunction(MGD)/Dry eye specialist in/near San Francisco

Looking for a good eye doc that knows about Meibomian Gland Dysfunction in or near San Francisco. Would consider Northern California area too.

My eye doc has tried everything she knows and I am still having a lot of difficulties. Appreciate any info/recommendation.

I saw Dr. Neil Friedman at Stanford Univ for IPL for dry eyes (in other words, he knows something about meibomian glands). He would consult Toyos wrt IPL (they all had the same machine - Dermamed Quadra Q4). His website is here: http://www.mpomg.com/index.cfm/doctors/neiljfriedman

I would fly into SFO, take Bart, then Caltrain, then the Stanford shuttle (the Marguerite) to his office. Easy!

IPL = intense pulsed light

If I remember correctly, the cost was ~$400 per treatment. My TBUTs never changed/improved. I have since had probing twice and LipiFlow twice. I can't pinpoint anything as making a big difference except wearing moisture chambers 24/7 and having all four puncta cauterized.

Is the probing you refer to the intraductal meibomian gland probing procedure - I believe there is info on a Dr. ****** in Florida? So are you saying it did NOT work for you?

That is correct. Probing = intraductal meibomian gland probing 'invented' by Dr. ****** in Tampa, FLA.

No, I didn't find probing helpful... and it's pretty much like torture (seriously - and I have a high pain tolerance).

If you *have* to have a MG treatment, I would rate LipiFlow as the least (or not at all) painful, least invasive, and least costly, then IPL, and finally probing. Keep in mind that I paid for all the treatments myself.

The best treatment I've found is moisture chamber glasses/goggles such as WileyX or 7Eye (also my puncta are cauterized).

Do you have a good pair of glasses/goggles? They really do work - and quickly.
