Where in the U.S. are you looking to go? There are excellent doctors in all areas of the country so if there's a particular place you are planning to go or would like to go, I'm sure someone can recommend someone good. The last thing you want is to be traipsing all over the country hoping to pick the right one for you.

I'd consider Dr. Perry Rosenthal in Boston (no longer at Boston Foundation for Sight... would have to find out if he is still practicing and if so, where). He is one of the few doctors that is worth making a trip out to see in my humble opinion - he's doing stuff that most local docs either know nothing about, or would be scared to try (due to lawsuit fears what with it all being off-label and experimental). That being said, the off-label and experimental is pretty much all that's left if you've been suffering for years and have tried everything else, right?

The last I heard (late November) Dr. Rosenthal is not in clinical practice but is still doing speaking engagements and pursuing further research.
Alex, do you have any specific goals for this trip? Might help with narrowing down good docs to see. Traveling to a specialist is always a bit nerve-wracking.Rebecca Petris

Btw I watched your interview on 16:9 SAAG, it was very good and hoping the follow up with go well. It will save many people from suffering the same fate, and, open doors to lawsuits. Everyone deserves to be compensated, how much have you spent to treat your dry eyes? Loss of work? and how much as it taken from your life?

DCR have you tried dr colin chan in sydney? Defintely the most cutting edge/ best opth I've been to in Australia.
As for where I want to go I really don't know, I was thinking dr latkany or BFS to start with and also IPL in memphis/ miami so really don't know what to do/ where to go I just need some answers I've been having eyelid/ nerve pain in my right eye which looks and feels swollen for nearly a year now continually getting worse I don't feel its just 'dry eye' it feels different.

Hey alex, yes I saw Dr. Colin Chan last November and have another appoint with him end of Feb. He certainly understands dry eye better than most ophthalmologists I've seen. Yes he's very good, but only stays in the restricted guidelines. He gave me doxy and prednisolone in vials to use. Other options are AziSite, blood serum, etc. However, he won't delve into using the experimental treatments and drops being used in the USA, eg: Testosterone drops, DHEA drops.
I'm searching for Australian ophthalmologists who are integrative and willing to work with us (whom have exhausted all current options) to offer the off-label treatments not currently available in Australia. Currently gathering emails to send an open letter on behalf of all of us Australians suffering from dry eyes and associated conditions. You can read the letter I wrote along with another forum member here at: http://www.blockedtearductsurgeryadult.com/?p=182
