  • Dr. Arun Gulani (Jacksonville, FL)

I went to see Dr. Gulani today after delaying visiting him for four months and I regret not going sooner. He checked my eyes for meibomian gland dysfunction, blepharitis, and other diseases but came to the conclusion that I just have an aquos deficiency. I explained to him that I've already gone through an extensive blood test for disorders such as sjögren's syndrome, thyroid, liver, etc, however, he is going to keep in touch with my family doctor and check my results solely for good measure.

I also told him about my trial with Restasis but he doesn't really have faith in the marketing of it and explained to me that the majority of the 10% that has seen improvement on it have been women over 50 (I'm 24 and male).

I now have temporary plugs and getting my lowers plugged with smart plugs next Friday. I asked him about the different types of plugs and he believes smart plugs are the best and doesn't believe the hype of the other models that have been released. He's optimistic that having my lowers plugged is all that I'll need.

*laughs* He also had an interest in checking this website due to me referencing it as to how I found him. He has been asked to make a website discussing dry eye problems in the past, so this has been an eye opener.

If anyone is looking for a good dry eye doctor in this area, see Dr. Gulani. He spent a long period of time discussing dry eyes and educating me more on the symptoms and procedures he goes through with his patients.

    His website is http://www.gulani.com

Well of course he's been asked to create a web site addressing dry eye issues...he's a bloody LASIK surgeon!

Haha. Yeah, and I know lasik is not popular on here. :P He also teaches on dry eyes all over the globe along with his other work.

There aren't too many corneal specialists around that don't do refractive, which is frustrating when one is looking for more of a pure ocular surface specialist.

However, Dr. Gulani is a highly respected cornea doc who is sought out for many different conditions. I know several of his patients.

...but only a tiny bit sorry. He can redeem himself in my damaged eyes if he commits to sending his patients here to visit us before their surgeries!

              Dr. Gulani and Dry Eye

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this, this is my first post on this site so please let me know if I should post somewhere else. Has anyone heard of Dr. Gulani’s Amniotic membrane graft surgery without any stitches? I am considering looking into this, it is usually intended for those with pinguecula or pytergium. I do have pinguecula, but I am not sure if it is related to my dry eyes? The surface of my eyes is completely destroyed (red, bunching, etc...) so I assume that fixing that should somewhat help my dry eyes?

I have been posting a lot lately re: my chalsis surgery by Dr. Gulani with an amniotic membrane graft. Go to the Introduce Yourself section and you will see my post. Yes, chalasis surgery under most circumstances will help dry eye by improving the spread of tears across the cornea and conjunctiva.
