  • Need dry eye doc in SF

Anyone know of a good dry eye doc (optometrist or opthamologist) in San Francisco or around the Bay Area? I've been to three doctors that just tells me I have dry eyes, tells me to use eye drops (which I already do!) and sends me home. Thanks in advance!

Try Michael Gagnon MD, a corneal specialist out at Valley Eye Care in Pleasanton. I met him at a conference earlier this year. He's definitely meibomian gland savvy (big hurdle with dry eye care) and I've had excellent reports about him from patients.

Thanks so much! Do you know how savvy he is with GP contact lens? I have very high myopia and have worn RGPs for over 10 years. My eyes are generally "ok" (i'm not sure what great feels like anymore) w/o them on, but i have problems wearing them and that is something I really want to do comfortably, even if it is just for special occasions.

Curious, anyone ever see one of the docs over at the Proctor Foundation, a subset of UCSF opthamology? They list 3 doctors who are interested in dry eyes...

I've no idea, but generally speaking, for GP lens savvy I'd head to a specialized optometrist not ophthalmologist. I know a good one with RGPs but I think she's down in San Jose. For really solid general advice though please check with Dr Gemoules in the Q&A forums here - he's been my OD for years and IMHO is simply as good as it gets when it comes to gas perms.

Thanks again Rebecca! I saw the name "Roberta Allen" in the dry eye yellow pages for San Jose, but I can't seem to google her office phone number. Is she the optometrist you were talking about? I am definitely look for someone like Dr. G in the area...an expert on contacts and dry eyes.

Thank you for the previous recommendation, Rebecca. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble driving because of my eyes, and Dr. Gagnon's office is not open after hours or on Saturdays when I can ask someone to give me a ride. =(

So if anyone knows of a dry eye doc in San Francisco (or bay area that is open after hours/weekends), please let me know! Thanks so much!
