    Rory

Have you ever had a doctor tell you that he / she can empathise with you because they too suffer with dry eye?

I have. I think it was to show me that if he could do his job as a doctor (with dry eye) then there was no reason for me to be held back from what I wanted to do. In fact it didn't seem to really bother him at all!

Such a wise man. His words have stayed with me.

Optometric Technology Group was founded by Dr. Michel Guillon many years ago and he still is the owner of the group.

I know you were considering going to see Michel Guillon in London. I mentioned in one of my postings (here) that I had enquired about an announcement that appeared on M Guillon's site, about a dry eye trial needing volunteers. They finally got back to me today with a questionnaire. It's not M Guillon himself who is hosting the trials; it is an organisation called OTG and here is a little bit about them.

OPTOMETRIC TECHNOLOGY GROUP Research & Consultancy is an independent group of research clinicians and scientists, which has built up an international reputation in contact lens and dry eye practice. We carry out clinical trials approved by an Independent Ethics Committee and urgently need volunteers to take part in our contact lens and eye drops trials

Their reply to me was sent from info@otg.co.uk but there should be details on M Guillon's site if anyone else is interested.

I certainly did not intentionally mislead.

I was unaware how close the connection was between the parties.

I've seen a booklet produced by them about dry eye, it doesn't even mention oil glands or warm compress.
prevention is better than cure, but not for eyes?

Justbob, this is an interesting old thread from 2009. I emailed RNIB to link to us on their website 6y ago and they did http://www.rnib.org.uk/eye-health-ey...itions/dry-eye. When I emailed for advice, confused why local ophthalmologists and GPs would not help us, particularly for a child, they replied kindly and sensibly. I've also spoken to Eye Clinic Liaison Officers in NHS ophthalmology centres, and other eye charities - they all recognise dry eye pain and that cornea and autoimmune disorders can be serious now http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Dry-eye...roduction.aspx. Apart from anterior segment specialists who published and drove forward knowledge, I think that in the wider community this is due to Rebecca and her Dryeyezone and Dryeyetalk, and that when all medical communities support each other things are much better for everyone.

Justbob, if there's one piece of advice to summarise the last 6y dealing with professionals and charities for me, it would be to dump the deliberately unhelpful, and seek out and stick with good people to make things better for all of us. I've also felt that once I notice a problem like this, it's kinda my job to make some contribution to fixing it, if I'm feeling well enough. Like noticing the kitchen bin needs emptying, ignoring it or doing it.

Wise words from Irisheyes. So much improvement in 6y since this old thread - just try searching 'dry eye or ocular surface [your town or region]' - gives us so much hope.

I assume the booklet I was given was printed recently, I only got given it last year, just pointing out it was unimpressive.

Task for you to fix when you are feeling better, I guess.

OMG, you're right. I think you might have to travel. An interested local optometrist would be useful for back-up - someone to work on this with you. http://www.eyecare.wales.nhs.uk/home

                  I doubt that'll happen.
