  • Hello from Oklahoma

Long time DES customer, but new to the forums.

About 15 years ago I was in a car wreck and tore my cornea in my right eye. Started using Muro 128 5% drops at that time. Fast forward 3 years and I'm diagnosed with sleep apnea and start using a CPAP machine. I notice then that my eyes sometimes feel pretty dry in the mornings but I'm younger and don't pay much attention to it.

I rode motorcycles for several years and on about six different occasions my injured eye would "come apart" on a trip out west and I'd be in a hell of a shape and 700 miles from home. Finally three years ago I quit the bikes because of my eyes.

Finally saw a cornea specialist about a year ago and he wanted to do a procedure where they poke a bunch of needle sized holes in your cornea and hope that it heals right. I'm sure it has a name, but I don't know it. I chickened out of that one, but may get brave enough next year.

Anyway, the last few months my vision has been really blurry, my eyes have watered really bad, I have awakened in the night with eye pain from either my cpap blowing air in my eyes or dry eye stuff. There are lots of nights when my lids get stuck together and it hurts to separate them when opening my eyes. I had thought it was more CPAP related until I saw my eye glasses doc and he said I wasn't making tears right. He put me on Asasite twice a day for two days and then for 30 days in a row. I'm about thru that round. A couple of weeks ago he added Restatis and I got a new pair of glasses and that has helped a bunch. I also tried a different CPAP mask, in trying to keep the air out of my eyes and the jury is still out on that.

Oh, BTW, I also have permanent plugs in my eyes.

I've worn Tranquileye's for at least a couple of years, but lately they don't seem to be doing much good.

Warm wash clothes on my eyes seem to help.

Where I'm at is I'm getting scared that after being on CPAP for 12 years (and I really do have to have it) that I'm having a bad effect on my eyes. When I go to bed I put Muro 128 ointment in my bad eye followed by Genteal gel for severe dry eye ointment in both eyes. I still wake up with eye pain after all this. Also in the morning I tend to have blurry vision.

Don't know if anyone can relate to my story, but I'm hoping to find a little help and wisdom from others on this board by sharing my story.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hello and welcome!

Hello to twoidhd and welcome! I am new to Dry Eye Talk also. I have been only dealing with dry eye since eye surgery at the end of October. So far, 3 different doctors (2 I like and I feel good about and the 1 - do not feel good about, at all) but 3 doctors with different thoughts and ideas.

Just hang in there because someone on this site will be able to help!
I know when I first discovered this wonderful sharing of help, information, I felt so much better knowing there were other people out there who truly understands how two eyes can cause so much discomfort and upset!

TAKE CARE! Good luck! Hugs from DJ
