    Hi Mary,

Thanks for posting. I'm new too. My doctor encouraged me to post, because I have quite a success story. First of all, I think your doctor is putting you in the right direction, but if eyedrops do not help, there are other ways to treat blepharitis. I had blepharitis too, with the red eyes. First of all, continue to follow your doctor's advice. My earlier doctors put me on Lotemax, a steroid, to reduce the swelling in my eyelids. This will get the blepharitis under control. You don't want to be on any steroid for a continued length of time, however. Anyway, in my case, my new doctor performed a NEW procedure that he invented. It is called INTRADUCTAL MEIBOMIAN GLAND PROBING (google it). Generally, what is going on with blepharitis is that the small oil glands that give your eyes lubrication, are plugged up. The eyedrops like Azasite attempt to get into the glands to loosen up the plugged up glands. Azasite did nothing for me. If fact, I hated it, because it burned. In my case, eyedrop therapy did not work. The steroid, Lotemax, only provided temporary help. The probing mechanically got into the glands, and relieved the plugged up glands. He also inserted through a tiny tubed instrument, a steroid into each gland. This is a NEW procedure. My doctor, Dr. Steven ******, has been doing it for 5 years. He is located in Tampa, FL. His website is www.dr******.com. He specializes in DRY EYES. Most local doctors in my area are really not up to speed on the lastest technology. I live 6 hours away from him. If you are not getting help, I recommend looking outside your area. I suffered for three years before I was convinced that my doctors were stumped, and couldn't help me.
In my case, I also had problems on the surface my eyes as a result of dry eye (I'm not sure which came first), that needed to be fixed. So I had the probing done, and then had surgery on both eyes. I cannot tell you how much better they are. It has been life changing for me. Hope this helps.

@NeedMyEyes- thank you for the info!! I'm looking her up now...
@jadavispcfl- thank you for the advice! Firstly, I'd be a little concerned using a new procedure being that it hasn't had much expirience yet and I'd also want to wait after using other possible treatments before going for surgury. However, if this keeps up I'll definatly consider it I think. I'll ask my eye doctor alot more questions. At times I'm confident that I'll get this all figured out but then I see from other people how some drops only provide temporary relief and do not keep it under control and it worries/frustates me even more but who knows, I'm the most patient person in the world so that probably contributes. He also didn't want to put me on doxycyline yet because it's the summer and he said I could get a very bad sunburn from it making me sensitive. Just gota wait a little longer and time will tell... thank you again!

        Hi everyone!
I just wanted to update and say that I wen to my follow up appointment today and my eye doctor got more aggressive with the treatment he gave me. He inserted punctual plugs in my eyes and gave me a kit to use which involves tetracycline, the heated goggles, and a lib scrub and would like to see me back in 3 to 4 weeks. I really hope this treatment makes a difference!! Does anyone have any feedback on these treatments or any advice with them whatsoever??? thank you so much
