  • Possible dry eyes

    Dear all

I thought I'd start writing my thoughts down as this is starting to drive me nuts. Having looked at some of your experiences and day to day struggle, mine is no where near as bad although this is quite scary for me and I hope someone can give me advice.

It started on the 28/08 where I woke one morning and like every other morning I opened my eyes and in my right it felt as though I had an eye lash in the bottom of my eye. However, I rubbed it but I still had the shadow like feeling underneath. My eye was a little sore but nothing terrible. I went to work and experienced the same feeling. Every time I moved my eye it hurt and I still had this shadow like feeling in the corner of my right eye in the right hand corner. Also, when I moved my eye I saw colours. Like a fuzzy flash of blue and green.

This continued for 2 days and then started reading some stuff on the Internet ! Convinced I had something serious I went to my GP. He then immediately referred me to the hospital. After waiting for 5 hours ! (god bless the nhs) and conducted all the tests by a eye specialist he told me to go to the opticians. He did not seem interested and when I asked him what it could be he again just told me to go to the opticians although I knew that there was nothing serious. No build up of pressure, bleeding etc.

The Monday just gone I go to the opticians. By now I still have the feeling of somethings in the corner of my right eye. My vision is normal but it just feels as though I have a tear in the bottom of my eye that I can't get rid of and it is giving me a bit of a blank spot when I look to the right but not the left. I also start to get flashing White lights in my eye when I go to bed. Although this happens about 4 - 6 times and then they stop.

So where am I at now........I still have this feeling of something is in the corner of my eye. It feels as though it's sticky although this feeling goes throughout the day but the 'dull spot' is still there. It does not affect my vision although feels better in a dark room then it does with a brightly lit room. Looking at my eyes, they appear very veiny but apparently they are not red. They do tend to feel sore In the evening. They do not water much and my right eye feels as though its bigger then the left.

At night I am also having dreams every single night which is very rare. They arnt nightmares but still very vivid and it's every night

I'm 27 years old. Have no previous history in family or otherwise of eye problems. No diabetes or other problems. This is driving me up the wall. One day I was fine the next this. It scares me as I am a police officer and predominately my job involves me driving. Also, I am off to Florida on Monday and this has just totally ruined it for me.

If someone could just tell me that I'm not going mad and could possibly offer me an explanation as to what this could be I would be very grateful..

Thanks for taking the time to read this

    Hi Charlie

Welcome to the forum. I have one bit of advice for you...see an opthamologist that will do a thorough exam. It seems as if you came away with no diagnosis from the eye specialist you saw. The longer you are on this forum, the more you will see that many folks go from one opth to another, trying to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. Not sure what you were told by opth except that there is no pressure or bleeding. I would not leave this to an optician because it does sound like something is going on with your eye...

Sorry, I have no explanation except to say that I have learned that these eye conditions can be very complicated and frustrating.
Wish I could be more helpful but can only say that I feel you should pursue an actual diagnosis. Hope you find relief.
