  • Goodness me, the worst pain I ever had!

    Hello everyone,

5 weeks ago, I was playing tennis trying to impress my new girl friend. Playing close to net, the ball went streight into my left eye. The pain was awuful and after advice from local pharmacist, she took me to the Manchester eye hospital (UK). They said half my cornea is eroded, it got almost healed after a week and I could not believe I could see again

Going for a re-examination, they gave me steroid drops to use for four weeks to reduce inflamation. During this time, we went for a adventure holiday in the USA that involved jumping out of a plane and riding a chopper. Coming back to England last week I started experiencing unbelievable pains and the eye hospital said I am suffering from recurrent cornea abraision. After 4 days of pain, staying in bed and awful thoughts, today is the first I can type

I have bought the Tranquileyes BASIC Kit as I am scared it will happen again and this time I want to be PREPARED! I am currently using Celluvisc drops every hour or so, have a humidifier in my room and staying away from dust, smoke and wind. It seems to have helped.

Learnt alot so far on the forum. Sad that I have to be a member now but happy that it exists!

    Good luck everyone!

    Robin x

Welcome to the forum Robin ... sorry that you've had to be here though. Agree with farmgirl re the girlfriend...! Very impressive that you went off on your adventure holiday to the US while all this was happening.

Have you used the Tranquileyes kit yet? I've been considering it as I get very dry eyes at night, but I'm worried that it will be too uncomfortable to sleep in. I hope you get on well with them and that it will help.

I also bought a humidifier but it's too noisy to use at night and it makes the room far too humid! I think it helps me more during the day when my eyes are open! I also got a hygrometer which is very useful as I can keep track of when my eyes feel best - 70%-80% seems to be ideal. Luckily I live in a humid part of the world!

Hope your eyes continue to recover well x

Just so's you know unicorn and Robin when I bought my nightime protectors, I was torn between tranquil eyes and onyx. I was shopping online. Then I saw the tranquil eyes in real life at the optometrists and they were BIG and bulky looking so I opted for the onyx and am so-o-o-o glad that I did as they are small and soft and I don't even notice that they are on my face. If I need extra moisture I tuck a small piece of damp gauze inside which presses on the lids and keeps them from opening and doesn't dry out overnight. I love them...cheers...F/G

Useful info, farmgirl, thank you. The only concern I have about the onyix is that they will leave indentation marks on my face- I am very susceptible to this. However if they are comfier to sleep in that would be a bonus. It's a shame I can't compare them in real life or try them on -they're not cheap

            Hi, RobinUK.

Sorry to hear about the accident and RCEs. I agree with unicorn that Tranquileyes or taping the eyelids can be a great help.

Also, you may want to ask your doctor about Clinitas Ultra 3; it's FreshKote here in the U.S., and like Dr. Holly's drop that is a favorite of mine (Dwelle) that is currently out of production, it is a soothing drop formulated to treat RCEs.

Keep us posted on your progress and good luck!

              Hello again everyone,

Unicorn; thank you. Waiting to get my order of two Tranquileyes kits from the USA as it is half price compared to UK. i do not think that I will have much of a problem using it as I used a taped eye patch for a few days (my skin is irritated now as the tape had too strong adhesive!). It just meant that I had to keep sleeping on my back which I got used to after a couple of nights. Humidifier is not that noisy and ike your idea of bringing it to close to my desk for day time work.

I went to an eye specialist yesterday and he was happy that I am making progress though my vision on left eye is still quite blurry. He's said it'll hopefully go back to normal in a few weeks but no guarantees!

Liz; thank you very much for the suggestion. I can see really good reviewes on Clinitas Ultra 3. Thinking of using them after my celluvisc runs out.

farmgirl; thank you. We get along really well now, the upside about this misfortune is that it helped us bond together much quicker I think. It brought the caring side in her :-) We're going to London this weekend and I pray to god that it does not recur over there. This time I am playing it safe; nothing more adventurous than having dinner and going to theatre and museums!

You obviously are a fast learner Robin, have a good weekend. No the Onyx don't leave a dent in my face, I am susceptible to that as well, I have very thin skin. My eyes are a tiny bit puffy in the AM but are deliciously moist under the goggle kind of like a mini sauna. The puffiness goes away in about 1/2 hour though so it is not an issue and I think someone with thicker skin wouldn't even notice. I hope you like the tranquileyes as much as I like the onyx...cheers...F/G

I taped my eyes shut last night using micropore tape. OMG! - it was so hard to get off in the morning - nearly tore shreds off my skin and removed a few eyelashes. Never again! On the plus side, I think my eyes may have felt a tiny bit less dry this morning (although it was hard to tell, as it took so long to get the tape off!)

I think it might be time to try the Onyix. Farmgirl your info has been great, thank you. My skin is very delicate and thin but I really need some kind of night protection and it's got to be better than the tape...
