  • Hi everyone!

Hi everyone! Im so pleased to have my account all set up on here now to hopefully be on the way to getting my life back as much as possible and treat my problem of nearly 1 year. It will be great to be able to chat to people who actually understand what im going through, cause whenever I mention it in 'reality' I tend to get a confused look and be told 'Can't you just use drops?' Well it isn't that simple! In fact I don't even tell people about this anymore as I suppose unless they have gone through Dry Eye or anything simlar themselves how could they possibly understand? I wouldn't tbh a year back, I wouldn't have known eyes could cause much grief!

Im 22 years old and will have been suffering with MGD for a year in December, what a great Christmas Present this was! Well actually I had an eye test in April 2012 and was told my eyes were dry and MGD was identified back then but I had no symptoms what so ever. On return when my eyes had gotten bad I was told that back then it must have been 'subclinical'. I really wish I had been told how chronic this could become then as I would have done a lot more and done my research then rather than just use drops now and again and use 'Blephasol' which was what they told me to do, everyday which I did. I do fear that the use of Blephasol each day could have been the trigger for it getting worse, however if it had become a problem when I hadn't used the stuff I would have thought I hadn't used it enough!

    - MGD, Dry Eye Identified April 2012, No Symptoms. Started using Blephasol every morning, Optrex Spray after computer use. Occationally 'Get the Red out' drops.

    - November 2012, Right Eye started to feel 'twitchy' which I put down to bright lighting at work or usual tiredness or stress.

    - December 2012, Uncomfortable 'Fullness' of eye lid started.

    - January 2013, Went to see Optician. He told me I had evaporative dry eye. Brought an Rice Eye Bag on his advice and Non Preservative Drops. Neither were much help.

    - February 2013, Started taking two 5ml spoonfuls of Flaxseed per day after Omega 3 capsules had done nothing for me, felt a slight improvement for a few months.

    - June 2013, First visit to Eye Hospital after GPs couldn't do anything more, I had had an outbreak at the time and did not wear makeup (it was a very early morning appointment. ) so was told it was possible Ocular Rosacea. Was put on Doxycycline 50mg and had a terrible experience, my skin got really bad and my right eye felt very imflammed (although nobody could tell, to look at it wasn't too bad) I spent a few days in bed it was that horrible! Stopped taking them with 10 tablets left. (of 28)

    - August 2013, Prescribed Systane (4 times a day) and Topical Prednisolone (before bedtime) but had to stop about a month in due to my eyes feeling drier than ever! My Skin had cleared up quite a bit on this visit and so was told its Meibomian Gland Dysfunction.

    - September 2013, Good days and Bad days, eyes are not as dry as they were when using the drops *touch wood* but I do get the fullness at times and the soreness. Im going back to see the specialist in two weeks.

Sorry for such a long intro post guys!

Just thought id add to this that I have never worn contact lenses and my vision im told is very good at the moment, although my eye does blur occationally I think due to thick oil I sometimes get in my eye.

      Hi there and welcome!

Sorry about the gap there... you posted right after our host got the site back up after a hack attack but just before I shut it down for software upgrades to prevent repeat.

And sorry to hear what you're going through!
