Blepharitis or MGD/DRY EYE

HI, I'm from Poland and I'm 20 years old. I have problem with my eyes 5 years old. The doctors say me that i have blepharitis , and I don't know is it MGD blepharits or Posterior /anterior blepharitis ... I have mucus every day morning in my eyes, and this is big problem for me ... I make warm compress on my eyes every night and i fell better but mucus in eyes doesn't disappear ... I haven't Demodex because i maked tests in laboratory and result was negative ...

I don't know what to do...

I took a look at your pictures and to me they do not look to inflamed. What are you using right now medication or vitamin wise to help?

I don't use any medication / vitamin . I only make warm compresses on my eyes. One years ago i applied drops azasite to my eyes , but It not work's for me and my eyes were better irritated. I think that I have blepharitis but not MGD , only anterior blepharitis ... I'm going to buy SVR topialyse palpebral cream ...

Bayan, do you remember what your lifestyle was when your eyes became dry? were you studying on the computer? were you going through puberty? or did you have an infection? what is your hair and skin like? do you have dandruff or eczema or acne or allergy? do you wash your hair and eyes in a warm shower every day with hypersensitive products? is your diet good - not much wheat, sugars, bad fats, but plenty fresh water?

What is the eye mucus like?

In 5 years, have there been periods when your eyes are better? It is possible to examine the meibom by pressing gently upwards with 2 fingers underneath the lower eyelash line - have you seen much coming out? do you treat chalazia?

Which every day eye lubricant drops have you tried? have you tried an eyemask at night in case of lagophthalmos?

I can see small chalazia on his pictures though. Bayan, we are doing best on careful eye hygiene, changing lifestyle, and diet, including using strategies to manage stress and live a very good life. With treatments, it's been a difficult balance between maintenance and not overdoing it.

Do you have eye pain with this?

My eye problems began when i was playing on the computer too much... I remember that I used CRT monitor then and i was worked on the computer at night no light... I haven't acne, dandruff, eczema / allergy . My puberty has stopped , but some years ago i had small eczema on my face and on my back ... I have dandruff sometimes on my hair if i forget wash my hair but it's a small...

I use warm eyemask - warm compress at night on my eyes ...
I don't treat chalazia ... My mucus of the eye look like a water ( transparent).
Lately I don't use a white sugar , merely I eat sweet fruit ...

Bayan, I think if you still have mucous strings in your eyes every morning, you need an ophthalmologist (ocular surface disorders, anterior segment), even for one consultation for advice on what might help - have you been able to find one who knows what to do?

Make sure the eye doc sees the strings because some people find there can be few other signs in the ophthalmoscope unless the cornea is damaged, which is one of the problems we have with getting diagnosis and treatment even when dry eye is debilitating.

If you've never had an experienced cornea specialist check, it would be best to be examined just in case there is a disorder another eye doc has not recognised. Or do you feel you've seen enough eye docs?

Maybe Google something like 'Poland cornea dry eye'. There are interested dry eye specialists from Poland attending Eucornea 5-9 October so here's a start http://www.eucornea.org/Amsterdam13/courses.asp.

However, we have also done well with Optometrists interested in blepharitis and dry eye who are working in high street opticians too. And it is essential to have a regular Optometrist for support, I think. Even just to talk to. But I think you've already got that?

Were you wearing contact lenses when this started? Are you drinking plenty water?

I noticed on the edges of the eyelids that I have herpes ( simplex?) there and I think that this is cause my red cornea. I feel that in my left eye, something stings . Is it possible that herpes can be in the conjunctiva ? I noticed several of these herpes on my edges of the eyelids... I don't drink a lot of water daily...

In my opinion I have herpes simplex on the eyelid margin with purulent mucus and not chalazion.

My doctor said that I should just clean my eyelids but but then I did not see the pimples on the edges of the eyelids.

I don't wear contact lenses.

I'm not medical but isn't herpes an urgent eye doc referral? plus there might be ulceration http://www.patient.co.uk/health/Herp...-Infection.htm Viral keratitis is tricky, I think. They would do a swab eye test and a careful examination for signs in the cornea. Would you have herpes for 5y?

Could pimples around the eyelid margins be blocked glands? It's not just meibomian glands that get clogged, we've found. It's also been eyelash follicles and sweat glands (Zeiss and Moll). In that case, stinging on the eye surface has been caused by junk seeping out of the blocked glands and my daughter has even had 'burnt' type patches on the eye surface and stinging so bad she couldn't open her eye and we had to use anaesthetic and steroid.

Good diet and drinking lots of water has made a huge difference to the eyes, as well as general health. Chronic blepharitis has been difficult but with careful eye treatment, life is good.

If you suspect herpes, though, I would get it checked out fast.

Bayan, the threads in your eyes are sometimes a symptom of bacterial infection, staphylococcus epidermidis for example.

I agree with littlemermaid. It is best to seek medical care. The doctor should take a culture and test which antibiotic is the most effective.

I did a swab of my eyes and I received Staphylococcus Coagulase Negative - without antibiogram because it is a normal flora. Demodex test also negative.

No antibiotics do not help me, I taken a lot of antibiotics ( including azyter) but no result.
I don't want to take the next antibiotics because my eyes fell worse ...
