  • How to locate a good dry eye MD or OD in King County, WA area

    Hi,

I am DryEye2, and I have been dealing with dry eye for probably 20 years, due to having been born with nocturnal lagophthalmos. At night, I have worn a mask made of PC pipe that was molded to fit my face, from an inventor who since has passed away. It helps a little, along with ointment in each eye at night. At any rate, my physician retired, and I have not located a physician who has "extra expertise", so to speak, when it comes to dealing with dry eye. Does anybody know of one? I am in Kirkland, WA. I would be most grateful!

    Hi DE2!

Re: doctor in/near Kirkland… Try Paul Jensen. He practices out of Renton, but also runs a shared dry eye clinic in Kirkland. Great guy. I'd take him over the average ophthalmologist (including some corneal specialists) any day of the week.

Re: mask. Wow that's too bad about the inventor passing! We need these things. - There's a number of products on the market… some made specifically for dry eye, some just kind of improvised, and of course with all of them "mileage varies". Maybe you could share a little more about your condition… that really helps with trying to pin down the right approach. Do you get erosions? dry spots? is your vision affected? etc. Sometimes a goggle works best… sometimes simple time-tested things like taping the lids down (nobody's idea of fun but… it works, and thankfully medical tapes are improving).

      Hi Rebecca!

I answered your post above, and then realized it had not gone through; I had not stayed logged in for some reason.

At any rate, thank you for your above post!

I will be seeing Dr. Jensen and ultimately seeing what might be appropriate for me in terms of goggles or etc. for nighttime wear.

My condition: I do occasionally get a dry area on one eye. I do the rice-in-the-sock microwave tretment every monring and sometimes just before gong to bed, and that helps. I do the Similusan eye drops during the day. The sock treatment helps with my meibomian gland dysfunction. Yes, my vision is affected. First thing in the morning, it is not good; however, after the rice/sock routine, it is much improved. Hopefully, Dr. Jensen has some suggestions.

Thank you so very much for your input! It is most appreciated!

      Best,

      DryEye2
