  • Tarsorrhophy

Hi Everyone, I`m Christine, I live in the uk.

Been suffering dry eyes for 11 years now, tried everything, drops, injections for pain, lenses.
My eye doc as now suggested a Tarsorrhophy, I`m not sure what to do, its two stitches on each corner of my eyes.
Has anyone had this done, if so, did it help.

    Thank you

What have you been diagnosed with besides Dry Eye? Are you aqueous deficient? Evaporative? MGD? other?

Tears only stay on my eyes for a few seconds, I have bad inflammation, very blurred left eye, been on steriod drops for ages, Blep.
I`m just very confussed to what I have got, to be honest!

Hello Christine, I think I would check whether he has been through the standard NHS treatments or identified what the problem is (search NHS website 'dry eye') It's not clear whether you have an incomplete blink? There is a huge variation in knowledge in UK so any doubts, I would check with specialists.

Christine, What's the rush? Why not go to Mr Tuft's cornea clinic at Moorfields Eye Hospital for a second opinion on what may help your poor eyes and relieve your pain?

You've suffered too long with this, and used a lot of steroid, but not many other treatments, as far as I can remember.

I'm not seeing why, after 11y, he thinks eyelid surgery is the answer if you do not have incomplete blink. Tiny gold implants are another option, I believe, if eyelids are the problem.

'Trust' does not really come into this any more - we do not need a 'leap of faith' now we have the information. It's not voodoo. Are you feeling uncomfortable with his manner? Instinct is important.

GP can refer to Moorfields or Bristol for more advice. An optometrist could refer, especially because your local eye service is so sparse. Chronic steroid use is a big deal and you have a right in the NHS to current treatments and to 'Choose and Book' where you want them. You should feel no pressure. Have you had a chat with Sarah Farrant? http://earlamandchristopher.co.uk/about/meet-the-team/

Get your intraocular pressures checked asap. Any high street optometrist can do that as a walk-in.

Christine, I'm so sorry you are alone with this. I just don't like the sound of this. He may be fab but you obviously need second opinion from someone in the trade. Even a great optometrist would do it better than us here because we're not trained and can't see you x

I cannot understand why he`s doing this there is nothing wrong with my eyelids at all, he said it would help them stay more moist? Last time he did my pressure it was fine.
