Hello everyone...I wanted to introduce myself, explain my story and start posting some threads. I feel like the information I'm searching for is so specific or on the bleeding edge of dry eye disease, that I simply can't find it. So let's try and create it!
my issues began when I got potting soil in my eyes, twice in one day. It was such a minor thing I didn't even clean my eyes out or think twice about it. Very dumb apparently. But that's happened to me before, never had an abrasion. I just blinked a few times and I felt like I cleared the dust. Well after a week I started getting photophobia then my vision got blurry. The dry sharp potting soil was under my eyelids scratching my eyes slowly but surely for days. I went in with no pain for my first exam. Then I left unsatisfied with the diagnosis, she didn't even stain my eye. Then the pain started...the burning, foreign body sensation, photophobia, etc.
Ive since healed completely however the dry eye has been initiated and I'm trying to find my way back to my old self.
Ar one point in this journey I was suicidal. The pain, as most of you know, is just debilitating. So my current journey is to find what I can do next to make things better. Right now my pain is non existent but I'm on steroid drops currently (alrex .2%) 2 weeks and now have some decisions to make which is why I'm posting.
a little most about me, I was a bodybuilder for years, took a lot of exogenous testosterone so my current free test levels as a 37 year old man are in the toilet. My level was 60 and the bottom of the reference was 72. So significantly low. I also smoke marijuana for bipolar manic depression. It's very hard to find information about men with dry eye that have started testosterone replacement as a possible cure. Also hard to find people that smoke/eat/vaporize cannabis with dry eyes and how they do it, if it helps, if they had to quit.
So thats why im here...looking for answers and hopefully able to help someone else like myself in the process.
I have to say, at this very moment I have literally next to zero eye issues. The alrex I've been on for two weeks has my symptoms at near zero. Just a few drops of theratears pf in the morning that is it. My next choice now is testosterone replacement then ween off the steroids OR restasis as I ween of the steroids. So I'll be posting some questions in open forum here shortly.
Nice to to meet you all!
