Has anyone come up with any correlations yet for why we might be getting dry eye syndrome?

I ask because no one in my family has it. I have roseacea, but so does my mom, plus the doctors see no sign of ocular roseacea for me.

Three months before I got dry eye, I got a cat. But, I don't have itching (or watering obviously).

So I am wondering if it's hormonal because I have been on birth control pills for 11 years.

I hope my corneas are not damaged permanently from the preservative drops I used to take.

    Hi

I am 30, I have mild facial rosacea. I have have never had a diagnosis of ocular rosacea, rather MGD likely caused by rosacea or autoimmune activity. Ocular rosacea doesn't necessarily mean you have bright red watery eyes. Do your eyelids get red? What exactly have the doctors said? i.e Aqueous deficiency, meibomian gland dysfunction, blepharitis?

No one in my family has dry eye either.

Would you consider coming off birth control to see if it helps your eyes?

    Any allergy testing?

    Liz

Sure did go off the pill 4 months ago just in case. And I will say, 2 months ago I had 1 week where my eye felt almost normal. So the eye problems could definitely be hormone related. But, of course the pain has made me so desperate that I've tried multiple approaches at the same time, and i'm not sure what exactly if anything has been helping. Fact is, nothing seems to be good enough as I still suffer and can't wear contacts.
My one eye sometimes gets dark pink on the bottom lid. And I do get mild puffiness. One doctor said my glands are blocked.
Havent tried allergy test yet, hear it's expensive.
