  • Been to see dry eye specialist now..Diagnosed mgd.

Well hi all after months of waiting saw eye specialist and diagnosed mgd.. After a brief examination he said i had an eye disease that wouldnt go away and that it had to be managed.. He prescribed 100 mg doxycyline gave me yet more minims artificial tears ,viscotears and some ointment for evenings.I tried to describe the intense pain but he just said oh thats caused by your eyes being so dry..I am starting to think that the pain may be something else as well owing to the severity of it..Am worried sick, have been crying a lot lately..How would others on this site describe their pain levels with mgd..is it normal to be in such agony...And the doxycyline has made me sick but im meant to stay on it the next four months.shall i just hang in there with it till i get used to the doxy or stop taking it..Has anyone else been sick with it ...Thanks for reading this..sending my love to all with this horrible condition...cb.

Doxy only made me sick (slightly queasy) when I took it without plenty of water, but I know the feeling.

I assume you are talking about this, rather the the more painfull "heartburn" feeling you can get if you take the pill dry.

Sorry to hear about your situation. It is frustrating, I know. The doxy made me sick, too. I find if I have a snack before I take it I am fine. I checked with the pharmacist and that was their recommendation. Not a giant meal but not on an empty stomach. Hope this helps!

I remember reading that the amount of Doxy required to treat MGD is 20mg/day. [1]

There is a pill called Periostat that IS a 20mg doxy tablet.[2] Maybe this reduced dosage would give you fewer side effects.

Might be worth talking about with your doctor....

If the doxy causes you problems persistently, you might see if you can get minocycline instead just in case it has fewer side effects for you.
