  • Poll: Do you have red veiny eyes?

I was just wondering how many of my fellow suffers have red vieny eyes. My eyes look like a map of red vessels.

Yep, that's me. I think mine is because I wear the BSL, and also my eyes are very dry. But some veiny conditions are benign and others need to be checked out.

Yea mine are a nice shade of pink with the odd 'major highway' - if anyone else I meet tells me "I should try drops because my eyes look red" I am going to drown them in a vat of BAK

The magic gloop IS out there somewhere - right?

        Red eyes

Hi, I'm new here, my name is Carolyn. I have red eyes, red and veiny or sometimes just pure red. I have had for the past month and a half. Right now my cornea specialist says I have severe dry corneas. And he thinks the redness will go away with time. How much time he doesn't specify of course, but at least there's hope. He just says to try different methods, artificial tears, humidifers, and maybe plugs.

Has anyone here who has had a dry eye spell actually gotten rid of red eyes? If so, how?! I'd love to know your success story. I'm glad to see that there is a place you can go to talk to others who have this problem. I've had it for at least 14 yrs and this is the first time of finding this forum. Look fwd to meeting everyone here. Thanks for your input.

        Blessings,
        Carolyn

          Red Veiny Eyes

Yes, I have various degrees of red veiny eyes at all times, sometimes its bright red, sometimes less red . I've tried all the tricks my OD has suggested, including Rx Restasis, and nothing cures it. Sometimes it just FEELS better than other times. But it is always painful to some extent even when I'm faithful with the regimine my doctor gave me to follow. People just hate to look me in the eye. Some have even told me they think I have pinkeye, which is very contagious. Are we sufferers all older (postmenopausal) women by any chance?

My, what red eyes you have!

My eyes are always red. In the morning, they look their best with very, very thin red veins, but the end of the day they are red. If I stop taking my eye vitamins, I have the appearance of pink eye within a few days. My eyes don't hurt usually, so my doctor basically told me that I just moved to a moist area and to "give it a year and see." Of course, the doctor’s office lights are low; my eyes look much different under the florescence lights of an office.

When I first realized I had dry eye one of my eyes also had that "major highway." That one can still flair up if I am having a bad DE day. I am in my late twenties, so not postmenopausal. I have glasses, which tends to hide my redness, luckily, and it has improved since I plugged my eyes and started my 100-step eye/lid routine.

Yes, I have red veins in my eyes due to meibomitis. It's strange because I have 3 in one and 1 in the other. They never change or go away.

                  yes

I have red eyes too. Thats normal for dry eyes. Inflammation+dry eyes
One time I got so much tears from irritation of plugs, and the redness was gone. I was so so happy. But that didnt last long.

                      Veiny eyes

I have several red veins. That is the part I hate the most with dry eyes. I have been to 5 eye docs and they all have given me different reasons for the veins, but all suggested Restasis and artificial tears. One eye doc said it was because of my contacts. But even being out of my contact for 3 years now, I still keep getting the veins.
Has anyone read or know if they can be removed? I know some people can get a condition where they actually start to grow over the cornea and cause visual impairment. What is the best way to prevent this? I do artifical tears about 6-8 times a day, but I still have gotten new veins. I think this is part of my rosacea. However, I have no problems with the eyelids. Anybody else have the eye veins and facial rosacea?

Yes. I feel like my eyes look disgusting. Not only do I have veins, but a pinquicula in EACH eye that gets red and irritated if my eyes dry out while I'm riding my horse, or working outside. I have horrible self esteem because of how red my eyes look all the time.

My eyes are much less red if I am diligent about putting in cold tears all the time, but the effects are not that long lasting. I'm getting plugs in the next month, hoping that might help. I'm 26 and apparently having my first bout of allergies this fall, as well. I had a horrible day when my eyes began to itch, get red in the corners, and then exploded in blood red color. I immediately got in with my Eye Doc and he said it was allergies. Great...one more thing.

                        I'll stop complaining now.

Yes, I have the red veins running through my eyes also. The Dr says its part of dry eyes, and that its just a cosmetic issue.
One that does not make me too happy
I look in wonder at people like my husband, that have such bright whites!

I have red, veiny eyes as well. I've had the problem for many years. When I first went to opthamologists about it, they told me I had allergies and blepharitis, and they prescribed steroid drops and Naphcon, which I used for years, and then found out too late that these drops make the situation worse (rebound redness, etc.). I don't use those drops anymore (unless I absolutely have to - such as when I've gone on job interviews). My right eye is worse than my left. When I'm rested and not under stress combined with a favorable diet of b vitamins and flax seed oil, my left eye looks decent; my right eye never looks clear, and so I don't think it ever will. It has degrees of redness, however.

Yup i have red eyes as well. At best they are a map of red veins. There is no complete resolution from the problem. The veins remain there forever. But if there is less inflammation or irritation, less blood flows through them and appear less red. That's the logic behing the cosmetic eye whitening procedures by Dr BW and Dr Kim. Their procedures remove the veins by getting rid of the conjunctiva and allowing a new one without the veins to grow back in its place.

However, whether their procedures can achieve long term results is still really a mystery as these procedures are still relatively new. At least for cosmetic purposes. They had similar procedures in pterygium surgery.

My problem started after wearing contact lenses when my eyes had an infection i was told. The eyes then turned very red and the veins remained. The redness gets worse when using computers, in air-conditioned environments or after taking alcohol. I hope something can be done to make it white again.
If only I had known, I would have taken better care of my eyes....... I want to turn back the hands of time
