I have suffered severe dry eyes since a total hysterectomy 8 years ago. I have had lower punctal plugs for years until they would not stay in any longer. I had the lower left puncta cauterized 5 days ago but the doctor could not do the lower right due to scar tissue in that puncta. I am concerned that I now have too many tears in the eye that the puncta was cauterized and I am panicked! I would rather be dry than too teary and can't seem to stop worrying about that. Has anyone had cautery reversed successfully? I am really wishing I had not had this procedure done and am actually hoping it might re-open on it's own. By the way, I developed an ugly purple and black mark under my lower lid that is still not healing. My doctor said it is normal and is just from blood inside where the puncta was cauterized that needs to resorb. Did this happen to anyone who has had cautery?
