  • Bloodshot from Dry Eyes. PLEASE HELP!

    Hi everyone,
I am new to the site & looking for some help/suggestions.
A little about me, I first noticed my dry eyes about eight months ago when my eyes had been stinging for a couple of days for some unknown reason. I saw an ophthalmologist who diagnosed me with Dry Eye Syndrome, recommending the usual preservative free eye drops (genteal & Refresh). Prior to this incident I never suffered any sort of eye redness nor eye irritation, those were the good old days!
Now, six months on, my eyes are permanently bloodshot & I only occasionally suffer from a little itching or sometimes a little white/yellow discharge. After using the above mentioned eye drops for about five month, for the past two months I have been using Homeopathic Similasan Dry Eye drops. Again, haven't seen any improvement from the redness. I use the drops extremely frequently, at least once every two hours. I work infront of a pc all day, so I know that doesnt help but I have no idea what has caused this. One day, I thought I could use both similasan & Refresh, was I wrong! My Eyes were set on fire! They were so red and i had so much white discharge, it took about two days for them to return to their normal level of redness, my ophthalmologist suggested I have sensitive eyes.
Since this has happened I have lost completely confidence in myself, I cannot look anyone in the eye as I dont want people to see my awful red eyes. I am afraid to stay up late at night or wake especially early as I fear lack of sleep will make my eyes more red. I spend soooo much time looking in the mirror at my eyes, its awful. I no longer want to go out & spend time with my friends etc as I dont want them to see me looking like this.
Can someone please reccomend some reading (articles, personal story or links), or products they think could help?
I'm pretty sad & depressed, I am tired of thinking about my red eyes all the time.
Thanks for taking the time to read my story.

    Sick of my red eyes

Hi, just reading your post described me to a T. Except that I have been suffering from red eyes for almost 6 years. It is so embarrassing and I don't ever want to look people in the eye because all they will see is bloodshot eyes. I have tried numerous eye drops and have seen various optometrists and doctors with no help. I am so glad to have found this site. I sit in front of a computer all day too and I'm sure that's not helping either. I don't know what's brought this on, but all of a sudden one day my eyes were red and they've been that way since. Some days are better than others, but regardless, they are always at least pink. I get so jealous of people with white eyes and it is depressing. Even in pictures you can tell that my eyes are red.

I am going to try all of the suggestions on this site from taping your eyes shut to getting some of these eye drops. I am desperate for help because I don't want this to affect my social life!!!

Tired of my red eyes too

Hi, I know exactly how you feel. My eyes are red and irritated every day. It looks like I don't get enough sleep or have been out all night., which is'nt the case. I hate having to deal with this day in day out. By 6pm my eyes are even redder, so that means I usually don't go out any where. I wish someone could come up with a good explanation why this occurs, and if it can get any better. Good Luck and let me know if you find something that gives you relief. Carol

Suneetk1: I would highly recommend you try Dwelle and Dakrina, instead of the drops you are using. I was using PF drugstore drops (including the ones you are using), and I could never reduce my usage to less than every two hours. At my worst, I was using them every 5 to 10 minutes!

Dwelle and Dakrina are both extremely long lasting, and Dakrina, especially, seems to really reduce redness. I also have sensitive eyes, but I haven't had any problems using these drops. Good luck!

          Hi,

I live on a pc as well and DES crept up on me about 18mths back. I tried many different drops initially with mixed results.

Try the nutritional side as well. I have been using omega 3 for 2-3 months and have definetely noticed an improvement - though still have my days. I'm at least at point where 8 hours at the pc is made that much more comfortable for me. I do take more regular breaks away from the pc. If there's low humidity in your office, that definetely won't be helping you. I bought a $20 hygrometer to measure the humidity level and it's usually around 40-45% in the office. Anything below 40 is too low and will exacerbate your situation.
