  • Hi- Intro

I have been sufferring with sore dry eyes for around 6months. I have been to see a speicalist on the NHS who said i have dry eyes and I should use aretficial tears. I am doing that now and it doesnt seem to be doing an awful lot. My eyes today are sore, i have developed pains, like shooting pains in the corners of my eyes and my eyes are generally more bloodshot today. They are just soooo sore. Im sure there are many out there in a worse situation than me, but this is really beginning to get me down.

He has said I should put them in for 4 months and then go back. during in which i shouldnt wear contacts etc.

My question is, i am going to my gp tomorrow, should I be asking for blood tests etc to actually find out what is the cause? the specialist didnt seem to talk about the causes. just the worst case scenarios that can occur!

I also have an itchy face and scalp at times, which leads me to think it could be an allergy? perhaps i should be asking for an allergy test?

I stopped taking the pill around november time. could this be causing dry eyes? sudden change in hormone levels? should i be asking for this to be checked.

The only other thing that has changed would be that I have moved out of home in the last year.

Finally in the last could of weeks i seem to have a burning sensation in my throat at times. possible acid reflux related? indigestion? i really have no idea.

Anyway, any advice, help would be most useful....

    Thanks

hello and welcome - since you mention the NHS I presume you're in the UK like me!

my first thought is: what are the drops you've been given? Many drops prescribed on the NHS contain preservatives which actually cause more irritation to our eyes. Check the contents on the box, and see if you can get preservative free drops. Maybe your GP will prescribe them? mine does.
They usually come in single dose vials which you throw away after use.

Next thought, since you mention itchy face and scalp is rosacea. Ask if your GP thinks a referral to a dermatologist may be appropriate?

Last but not least...keep on reading on here - it is a mine of priceless information about a subject most doctors and specialists know very little about!
    good luck!

yes, i am in the uk. Northamptonshire.

I feel that its allergy related. I went to my GP today and I am going to see an allergist on the 30th of april. so that is good. I sneeze alot. well, its strange, once a day i will have a sneezing session! anything up to about 25 sneezes one after the other..... that leads me to think i have an allergy. the redness kind of tingles. so that could point to an allergy.... i am hoping i see an allergist and they say oh yes you are allergic to...so and so and then i will be alright. we will see.

I have go a preservative free eye lube called lacri lube now. so hopefully that will be better, i had viscotears before. have no idea if it had preservatives in it or not.
