  • New and done lurking,Dry Eye??

Newbie here researching this on my own. Im a 47yr old female, contact wearer. What brought me to this board was looking up all I could find on dry eyes. Last week I went to my eye doctor about the trouble I was having with my eyes, the contacts seemed to be bothering me a little more lately and they didnt seem quite right. He did his exam, said all was good,no infection or anything like that. My script for contacts didnt need changed, and told me to try using optive or blink and that I could use them with my contacts (wrong) blink made my one contact stick to my eye some. Upon reading more online, I have seen that to use optive or blink, you should remove your contacts, and then wait 15 min before inserting them. Needless to say, this has made me not feel all that comfortable with this eye doc. Im waiting for a new pr of glasses that should hopefully be in by Monday, then I plan on going to see a different doc for a second opinion. My regular doc didnt seem to even seem to do any test for dry eyes, just handed me drops and said give that a try. He also gave me a free pr of Acuvue Oaysis contacts, which didnt seem to feel as good, or stay wet in my eyes like the Acuvue2 ones did. For the last week, I have had good days and bad,and cant wait till I get the new glasses, since my old ones dont seem to be up to par, and when I get fustrated with my contacts,I have to put on the old pr and I cant really see as good (cant even watch the tv clearly and its only about 6-7ft away) I have been all over this board and it seems to be the best place to ask for ideas and maybe get a clue on how to best handle this. I can relate that people that dont have this, have no idea how miserable it can make you. Guess what Im asking is:
Your opinions on the 2nd opinion?
    Optive drops and contact wearing?
Drops that can be used while I have contacts in?
Can they tell if this is allergy related,if so,how?

    Extra info if needed:
    47female
Contact user for about 25 yrs
Wasnt complaining till about 2 weeks ago (allergies??)
No red eyes, no gunk, just a dry feeling.
Sort of feel it could be allergy related since its this time of the yr,but Im afraid to try the claritin, since that might make the dry
    eye worse.

Im sure I will have alot more questions, but these are the ones I can think about now.

    Thanks for your time
    Cranky old bitty right now

    Opti Tears free rewetting drops

I had some good experience with Opti Tears free rewetting drops from Alcon. You can use them while you are wearing your contacts. You can also use preservative free eye drops. Even Systane doesn't have any influence on your contacts even though it does have a preservative. (don't use other preservative drops with your contacts) What is also useful is to use replenish contact solution (wow I sound as an Alcon advertisement) Not my intention but they made it better for me. Nowadays I stopped using my contacts because my eyes are just to dry.

Find another eye doctor or a good contacts specialist. Don't expect too much though. My experience is that a lot of doctors don't know a lot about dry eye. At least not in The Netherlands. I think the USA is better....

    Good Luck

      Willing to try anything

      Hiya margje
Thank you for your response,I do have the opti free rewetting drops already, they just dont seem to help as much, unless I want to use them about every 10-15 min. But least I can wear my contacts then. Im willing to try other ones, just was confused about what ones I could wear with my contacts still in. I sure wasnt going to ask my eye doc again, after what he told me about the Blink drops Im going to do research on the systane and the other drops and hopefully get some later today. I just wish I had a up to date pr of glasses, since I can hide at home if I want. Hopefully monday. I have read here alot that people have had to give up thier contacts and that just makes me sick to my stomach cause I dont want to have to go back to glasses after this long without

BTW, I see you too are new here, WELCOME not the best place to meet though Im sure we will see each other around alot.

Take care and I wish you the best.

        Quick follow up

Well since I'm not the most patience person around and I only have this one pr of eyes, I did make a appt to see another doc. This time I went for a opthamologist instead of my regular optomerist. I have my appt on Wednesday so maybe then I will find out more (I hope). I feel bad whining here when so many of you have it way more than I do. I keep going between dry eyes and hoping this is just allergy related.
I do have to thank you all for all the info that is on this site, I am now 100% sure I will NEVER have that lasik or anything crap like that. Just this little time period with whatever seems to be drying out my eyes now is more than enough.
One ? though, I see you all say preservative free drops, and I have stated the old doc gave me Optive drops. I see they have purite inIf you were me, would you shy away from this? I always have to watch what I get cause Im still wearing contacts.

        Wishing all a good day
