Good morning, All!
I would like to thank all concerned for this site. Misery loves company, I suppose. While I am not pleased that y'all have these painful problems, it is reassuring to know that I am not the only one terrified to go to sleep.
My problem started about 4 years ago. I would wake up in the middle of the night with a dreadful pain in my right eye. No one seemed to know what the cause was (migraines? sinus problems? dental problems?), yet it (the pain) continued on an intermittant basis. After a few dreadful months, I was referred to an opthomologist.
My painful eye became a secondary problem to the specialist (of course, I hadn't had any bad nights in a while, so he couldn't see any abrasions), as he diagnosed cataracts, and insisted on immediate surgery. When I hesitated (I wanted to know why I was having these painful episodes, before anything further was done to my eye), he threatened to lift my driver's license.
OK............so now I have plastic lenses................and dry eye in both eyes (due to surgery)............and a REALLY painful right eye most nights (a ripping, tearing sensation while asleep).........with headaches, achiness (grittiness, foreign object feeling) and light sensitivity throughout the day. 'Normal' life (or my version of normal) was almost impossible. Two more specialists...............more questions about my cataract surgery............many tests for retinopathy and glaucoma (I am a Type 1 Diabetic).........but no solutions to my painful eye.
Sigh. I gave up on the medical aspect.
For over a year now, I have been getting up a few times a night, to put in drops or gel...........with varying results. The past few months have been terrible........episodes a couple of times per night......causing me to search the internet...........and voila! Here I am!
I want to thank all of you for sharing your experiences. After reading these posts, and the Dry Eye Zone, for the past few days (and nights), I suspect I have RCE. I had Bell's Palsy about 15 years ago (unfortunate contact between my face and my dog's head). I would guess (since my problems are on the side of the face that was paralzyed), this was the initial cause. I have ordered Tranquileyes, and Dwelle from the Dry Eye Shop, and have an appointment to see my doctor tomorrow.
I hope, over the course of this problem, I might be able to add some insight for others, as you have already done for me.
Debbie
