  • Discouraged with present eye doctor

I've been seeing the same eye doctor for years and have always thought the world of him. However, ever since I developed dry eye syndrome, I get the very strong impression that he just doesn't have time for my visits. I've had punctal plugs which when they stay in work fine. When they pop out I'm miserable. He then tells me that they are in place and working. If they were, I would not have the symptoms which as everyone knows can drive you up a wall. I now realize that the fact is that plugs are expensive and they would have a problem with the HMO's if they kept putting them in frequently. Fine. Just tell me that and I'll pay for them! Does anyone else agree with this? By the way, I've tried getting an appointment with another doctor for another opinion, and the earliest time I can get is two more months! I'd love to have some encouragement from someone!

Plugs don't help everyone. I am one of those people. Some eye doc's practices are just not set up for delving into what's causing the symptoms. They focus on putting a band aid on them instead. This is nothing negative to be said about the practice, just the facts. I faced the same issues. I maxed out on what my eye doctor of many years could provide. I found a specialist, found out what was causing my problems and have started on a treatment plan that I hope will bring me some long term relief. You may have to see 3 or more doctors before you find one who can help you. You have to be your own advocate and do what is right for you. In time, you will get the proper diagnosis and treatment plan. I wish you the best.
Every day with DES is like a box of chocolates...You never know what you're going to get.
