Could anyone recommend a DE optometrist in London please?
Many thanks
Steve
Hi Steve, I live an hour away from London, have DES and Blepharitis ( 2 years following surgery) have tried optometrists, but have received far superior treatment and results from a Hospital Clinic. I am being treated by Mrs Sabrina Shah-Desi Consultant Ophthalmologist (with clinics private and NHS at Moorfields Eye Hospital London and elsewhere). She offers the latest treatments and they are available on the NHS if you have been referred by your GP. I spent over a year trying to find a good consultant, and she is the best I have been treated by. Good luck.
Thanks rm14dp, I'll see if I can get a referral from my GP. I don't have blepharitis, but my DES has given rise to sinusitis-type symptoms including sore nasal passage, eye pain, and a nagging dry sore throat.
Did you have Lasik as well?
And can I ask please what treatment you have received from Mrs Shah-Des that you have found effective for your DES?
Hello. I had a small cataract developing, so the lense was removed, pulverised by laser, and I had toric lense implants (both eyes were done). The dry eye and eye pain started the following day. The pain travels under my eye, also down the back of my throat . Posterior Blapharitis began a few months later. I have had a number of different treatments,(inc MRI scan) I see her every two to three months and she trys different things , I have had a number of different drops, - each of us is different unfortunately, there is no single treatment plan. At the moment to relieve the DES I use an MGD eyebag for 10mins every evening, the heat helps. During the day and night I use a combination of Systane UD eyedrops and Systane Ultra (thicker) depending on how severe the dryness is. They are single dose vials without preservative, the hospital suggests that if drops are to be used long term they should be preservative free. I use them about every one to two hours. She also prescribes Azyter Azithromycin eye drops if my eyes are inflamed. I am on the waiting list for punctal plugs and Restasis thats the next plan of attack. She is excellent, and if you do get to see her, there are many different treatments she discusses. I also take Omega Eys ( omega 3 and vitamin D) www.scopeophthalmics.com she suggested these instead of Flaxseed oil. Good luck
Update - Stephen Tuft and Martin Watson at Moorfields Eye Hospital have also been recommended to me by my optometrist. I am going to try to get an appointment with one of them via the NHS. Wish me luck!
I initially went to my local Moorfields hospital which wasn't terribly productive, so I went back to my GP and asked him to refer me to Mrs Sabrina Shah-Desai, as recommended by rm14dp.
My optometrist also recommended Stephen Tuft, so it sounds like you're on the right track. Good luck!
Thanks, Steve. I don't know if you are post-LASIK but I emailed Stephen Tuft's secretary and he works with an optometrists who does a confocal microscopy. If nothing else, I'll hopefully know how my nerves are doing!
Hope you are doing well and thanks for your reply.
