  • Does anyone experience the same?

Hello, after 7 years of visiting eye specialists I was finally diagnosed with dry eye syndrome, although how it came about no-one knows. I dont wear contacts and have never had a problem with my eyes but over the last 7 years my symptoms are still here, its been a case of having to learn to 'live' with it and try and make the best of life. But thats easier said than done. I find sometimes that before during and just after my periods that my eyes get worse, symptoms include a 'foriegn body' sensation, itchy gritty and the eyelids getting red and a littel inflammed. Sometimes I can go a month with my eyes feeling 'normal' then just one day they flare up again. Does anyone experience this at all? I have tried all the eyedrops under the sun, and becasue I live in Turkey at the moment, all medication is easily handed over no questions asked. My sister recently went to the USA and brought me back some eye drops called refresh liqugel, and they were pretty good and long lasting but unfortunately I cant get them here. I am struggling to get along in life as this condition causes me so much stress everyday, please can anyone advise me on what I could do to help myself out after 7 years of misery.
    thanks.

    Hi eyesdry

My quick and dirty advice for you is to read and learn. There is oodles of information on here and other sources. There are many many different things that could work for you, I think its best to see if you can learn a little bit more about what kind of DES you have and the best methods to minimize discomfort for it.

As far as the menstrual cycle goes, I have no experience there but there is a strong link between hormones and tear production/quality and I have read women stating that many times on here before. It goes for men as well, and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of research in this area yet.

A product similar but not identical to liquigel is celluvisc which seems to be increasingly available in europe.

Both products are made by allergen.

maybe give it a try if you can get hold of it.

Another product is Viscotears (preservative free).

      Cheers

Hello and thank you for your replies. I shall like you mentioned have a good look at the site and see what products could work for me. I wonder if they will be any advance on the hormone theory?? - I hope so.
I have tried celluvisc and it wasnt much good for me as I could only use it at night but my eyes are the worst first thing morning and late afternoon but thanks for the advice all the same.
        Thanks again
