  • Clinitas Ultra 3

FYI, for those who did not see it on the blog or Dr. Holly's forum:

Freshkote is now available in the UK, though under a different name (since it's licensed to a different company). It's called Clinitas Ultra 3 and is available OTC.

This product is similar to Dwelle, with the addition of a lipid-containing ingredient. It's available online for 7.99 to 8.99 sterling for a 10mL bottle. That will make it much cheaper than having Dwelle shipped from the US. I'm pleased to see at last one of Dr. Holly's Drops available locally there. If you google Clinitas Ultra 3 you'll find several online retailers that carry it including Matheson's who have quite a lot of dry eye products online.

The same company, Altacor, has 2 other OTC drops, Clinitas Soothe (a sodium hyaluronate drop) and Clinitas Hydrate (carbomer gel).

It is great to hear the availablity of these products here in the UK, it is encouraging to see more and more products becoming available.

I remember when I first starting dealing with dry eyes and all we could get were refresh tears and lacrilube. My how we have come a long way in just 2 years.

Hopefully in the next two years I won't be too concerned with the new product developments as I hope to be over this by then - always live in hope.

Have had a look at a few sites and availabilty seems quite good, just shop around for pricing as it varies (and remember to add in the postage - as some do free postage) as it can considerably increase the price.

      Warm regards

I ordered a bottle of Clinitas Ultra 3 on Tuesday which arrived today. I tried it with the Thermoeyes tonight, and I can tell you that it made my eyelashes stiff just like Dwelle! Maybe it's because I know it's slightly different, but it doesn't feel quite as nice in my eyes as Dwelle. Time will tell if it works for me, I guess.

Thanks a lot for the info.
I don't know what to do now! :-) My first bottle of Dwelle is almost empty and I don't know if I should order it again from the shop here (and pay around 25$ postage) or if I should order the new drops from the UK (13Pounds incl. shipping)......
Any advice? I'm afraid that Freshkote does not help me as much as Dwelle.

@Rebecca: Why is shipping outside the US so expensive? Is there a way to reduce the shipping costs???

              clinitas ultra 3

Can anyone shed light on the comparason between freshkote ,dwelle, and clinitas ultra 3 please
Are they the same or different?
Is clinitas ultra 3 with the preservative safe for long term use?
How does clintas ultra 3 work on the tear film?
              I would appreciatte any feedback
              many thanks

                Hi, Locky.

It might be worth posting the question about long-term use to Dr. Holly's Q&A area.

Rojzen is my go-to expert on experiences with Dr. Holly's drops, including FreshKote(TM). Here are some threads on the topic:

                  Prickly eyelids

I started out with high hopes. I've been using Clinitas Ultra 3 with the thermoeyes for a few days, and every time it's given me a prickly, itchy feeling on the edges of my eyelids, like stinging nettles! Maybe it's the heat from the thermoeyes that's causing this feeling, but I don't like it much.

So far it's not replacing Dwelle in my affections. I can live with the high postage costs to make my eyes feel better.

Sorry... The reason is the tracking. We use the cheapest trackable shipping method available. (USPS Express Mail Intl.).

Used to also offer a lower cost one from our post office (USPS Priority Mail) but I had two problems with it - sometimes it took extra long, like 3-4 weeks for some customers in Canada who got understandably upset, and sometimes packages went astray and we were stuck with unhappy customers AND the cost of replacing the package because we had no recourse... and it wasn't all that cheap either ($19 for 1 lb vs. $28 for Express). At this point our USPS is raising rates EVERY MAY so it's only going to get worse.

We never had surface mail because neither of our shipping software packages support it. I'm working on ways to get an alternative for the UK at least.

I'll put a little thought into this, maybe I can reinstate the Priority Mail option, but I need a way to make it clearer to customers how long it takes and that it's not trackable, because most people never read the shipping policy and thought most of our customers are absolutely wonderful and understanding, some get very unhappy when shipping doesn't meet expectations.

Thanks for your answer. I'd prefer the drops to need 2 weeks with shipping rather than paying around 25$ for air mail within 3 days! :-) So, I hope there will be an alternative in the future! Anyway, thank YOU!

                        clinitas drops

I have used all three clinitas products and have found clinitas smoothe p.f drops the best... Interesting mathosons prefer clinitas smoothe to clinitas ultra 3 as clinitas smoothe has high viscosity ha gel preservative free....
and have advised clinitas ultra 3 is preserved by a polyhex compond which stings on installation these are the comments of dr andrew matheson u.k optomestrist....
I have ordered dwelle as in does not contain a lipid ingrediant like clinitas ultra 3 and will post my comments soon....

Shall I give it a try?

I have ordered Clinitas Ultra 3 and it will arrive next week. At the moment I am still only using Celluvisc during the day when my eyes feel dry or in the morning if my lids feel stuck down and lacrilube at night and I'm taping my eyelids at night as well to keep my erosions under control.
The worst erosion in a while happened in December and the ophthamologist scraped off the top layer of my cornea in my right eye in the hope that it would fix itself properly to the basal layer. She told me to use lacrilube for "at least" the next 3 months. Despite taking precautions in both eyes, I've subsequently had 3 fairly bad (ie lasting nearly a whole day where I can't open my eyes) in my left eye (though not at all in my right) so I know I need to do something else.
Without having been properly diagnosed yet (appointment with corneal specialist on 19th of May) is it safe for me to try Clinitas Ultra 3?

Without wanting to tempt fate, I have now been using Clinitas Ultra 3 for the past few weeks mainly of a night for my RCE's

The erosions seem largely under control, but i now seem to have a dryness and buring sensation again that I thought I was over.

Not sure if there is a connection between this and the change to Clinitas Ultra but I am not giving up yet.

I have had horrendous problems with RCE's post the "less invasive lasek option" I had in October 2005.

It seems that Clinitas ultra is certainly helping overcome them.

I wish you well with it.

                            Cheers

ive been using Clintas 3 drops in each eye before bed and putting on a mask this has been going on for 3 or 4 weeks or so now and i did get much better but just in the last week the stinging dry eye has got worse so ive given up on the clintas 3 and it seems slightly better.

Possibly another drop that i cant use, marvelous!
