  • How long is too long?

I really do not like steroids and antibiotics, but that is the only thing that stops my inflammaiton. My doctor gave me an eyeointment for nighttime to

stop inflammation i could use this for 3 mounts! I think it is a very long time and i do not like using it. How long time do you all use steroids and antibiotics ? It

feels like i am useing this now for some time to stop my inflammation, and than i will have cataracts or glacoma and i will have to treat that and my doctor will

have something else to do and so on and on...

If i do not use this, will the veins start to grow into my cornea ? (i will have to ask my doctor that)

I don't think anyone really wants to take steroids or antibiotics.

I assume your doctor evaluated whether or not steroids might help your eyes without the risk of exacerbating any pre-exisiting conditions.

The doctor will check your intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eyeball) frequently, since prolonged use of steroids may increase this pressure.

One doesn't automatically get glaucoma by using steroids. I've already mentioned (on the forum) that I have had to use steroid drops for years because of another serious eye condition - I had no choice in the matter as I would have lost my sight.

Unfortunately, it caused a cataract but it's hardly noticeable - and it's certainly no big deal when I compare that to the misery of the dry eye and blepharitis. I keep a store of pf low potency steroids to get me over bad patches - generally I use them only in left eye which is the worst.

Your doctor should advise you how to stop using steroids; it's important that you should taper off gradually and not to stop abruptly.

      Thanks,

So sorry to hear that you now have a cataract too, but it is good that you do not think it is a big problem.

I think my doctor gave me a low potency steroid but she also told me that if i feel this would help to use it, if not not to use it. I just want something to

stop my inflammations but i guess there is not anything that can do that. I do not have MGD or Blepharitis right now, but i know that eyeinflammtion could

cause that. How often do you use the steroids that you have to get over "bad patches" ? for days ? weeks ? and how often do you think you have "bad

patches" ? My eyes sometimes feels better when i drink a lot of water and green tee and i do not feel that i need to use steroids if i drink a lot and not eat

      anything in the evening.

I have the inflammation problem too for which I use restasis. I'm not keen on the idea, but restasis has less of a risk of glaucoma I think than using steroids. It has helped me, but I would love to try dwelle or something like that instead.

Great! I want to try restatsis. I have heard that it gives you a little more tears and that has to be good for the night right?! I am waiting for my doctor to say it is ok for me to fly to another country for that Because we do not have restasis where i live ( we do not have anything here)

            Hello again Sanna

It's difficult to say how often I get the `bad patches' and they can last for a few days up to a few weeks. When a bad patch starts, I never know how long it's going to be so I give it a good few days before I resort to using the steroids. Even then, it can depend so much on my mental energies and how well I am coping with it. If I find myself `spiralling' then I use them.

It's interesting about you not having the need to use them if you don't eat anything in the evening. I've thought about that but never put it to the test.
