  • Corneal Nerve Regeneration study

Yet another article about corneal nerve regeneration, using growth factors.

    http://www.iovs.org/cgi/content/abstract/51/2/804

    Dated September 2009.

For those of us with Dry eye as a result of refractive eye surgery, what do you think about this study?

And... what do you think about studies in general?

This isn't the first time I've read a study about using growth factors and proteins and whatnot to "regenerate" corneal nerves... in a laboratory with bunny rabbits.

On the one hand, I'm hopeful about this study!
On the other hand, I have to be realistic.

    Any thoughts on this article?
Any thoughts about articles in general?

    Thank you all.

Damn, all these bunnies and rats getting top-notch medical treatment while we are stuck with warm compresses from the Middle Ages

Seriously though, I think that at some point this will be available. The only question is whether "at some point" is in 3, 10, 20 or 50 years

      hopefully sooner

In principle, since this is a biologic, and not a synthetic drug, it can be approved faster...at least as I understand current FDA authority. there is some movement to give the FDA more authority over biologics, from what I understand...
