Here's a Newsweek article, titled "Desperately Seeking Cures", published in the May 31, 2010 issue regarding medical science and drug development:

It lists possible explanations as to why it takes so long to develop treatments to fight disease. It talks about bureaucratic red tape, patent laws, academic culture, etc.

I found it insightful.

That was a very good article... I think the more awareness about this issue, the better!

If there wasn't so much red tape, lack of cooperation between various agencies, etc. I'm sure there would already be many more treatments for disease available today than what we currently have...
