Can anyone explain to me what filaments are? Thank-you!

I believe it is when your defective tear, which does not have enough lipid layer around it attaches to the epithelial cells of your cornea and then the tail end of it moves around every time you blink. I hate them; I pull them out of my eyes all of the time. It is like a big wad of mucus. I don't think my doctor approves, but if I wanted until I saw him once a month I would have so many of them built up I would be blinded in a week. I have been blinded before by too many filaments. Once I take the filaments out then my eye feels drier, it feels like I have taken a bunch of moisture out of my eye along with the filament, and then the filaments just reform. I am now on mucomyst 4 times a day, which helps break apart the filaments. This seems to help along with serum tears, plugs in all 4 tear ducts, eye moisture chamber goggles, Restatis, 2 different ointments at night and a bunch of other stuff..
