Wake up at night from scratching/rubbing my eyes so hard?

Hello I am new to this site. My first post was http://www.dryeyezone.com/talk/showt...ML-for-3-years

For the past week I have been rubbing my eyes so hard in my sleep that I wake up and I am wondering if this is because of dry eye or allergies? And a way to prevent this? Also my left eye has been tearing up a lot and was wondering if that meant it's more dry or less dry than the right one?

So now my left eye keeps watering and my right eye feels really dry...

Hi Erika,

The best thing to do is to see your eye doctor as soon as possible. Any new symptoms or change in previous symptoms warrant a new eye exam to make proper diagnosis and institute proper treatment.

It sounds like an allergy more than dry eye. But your symptoms might also be of night corneal erosions, adverse reaction to any drops or medicine than you're using, floppy lids that evert in your sleep, intolerance of contact lenses.

But only a thorough eye exam can determine a cause of your symptoms.
