  • Red, inflamed eye lids

For the last 3 days my eye lids have been getting progressively redder, and more swollen. Wednesday night my eye lids were so swollen I had to hold them open to get drops in. Thursday it started earlier in the evening, my eye lids were red, swollen and tender to the touch. Friday when I put Restasis in at noon my eye lids started to swell up. My eyes were very red all 3 days. I called my doctor to try to get an appointment late Friday afternoon, but I could not get it. I did talk to my doctor and after he determined that I did not have an eye infection he told me to go on TobraDex 3 x day, to use hot compresses 3 X day and see him Monday.

After putting in TobraDex last night my eye lids are better. The only things I have done differently in the last week are: grading a lot of papers, so I am reading more and I have been staying up until midnight to do this so I am getting less sleep, about 5 hours a night. I have bben using a different under eye cream in the morning. I have also started cleaning my eyelids every evening with Bausch & Lomb advanced eye relief eye wash and then applying hot rice sock compress until I fall asleep, so I have the sock on for hours. The last time I used an eyelid soap to clean my eye lids I ended up with red inflamed eye lids and an infection.

Does anyone have any idea what might have caused this sudden flair up and what to do to make it go away?

    Hi Trac,

Do you usually have the hot rice sock on for hours? I wonder if your lids ae getting too much heat? Is the Bausch & Lomb eye wash something new for you? Maybe you are reacting to something in that?

Personally I really like the Occusoft eye lid scrub that is available for sale here on DEZ. It is sooo gentle.

Hope you are feeling better soon!

We had a one eye upper lid inflammation flare-up that resolved fast on steroid + antibacterial drops. It was not obvious infected bleph and looked more like general swollen complaining - too much touching the eye, generally rundown, maybe some contact problem, too much intervention - we laid off except sterile warm water compress in case the eyebag was bacterial. I know some lid hygiene products have unhelpful pH if the eye is sensitive, we can't use 'em. Glad it's clearing.

How is that Bausch & Lomb advanced eye relief eye wash working out for you? I think that stuff has preservatives in it. Have you ever tried something PF like Unisol?

I had inflamed eyelids, and had to go on Lotemax for that. Eyelid inflammation can be very painful - it was the low point of my DES so far.
