  • Neuropathic Pain meds?

Is anybody using gabapentin (neurontin) to ease dry eye pain? What other meds help?
    Thanks.

    Hi grandmamac,

You may want to do a search for 'neurontin', it's been discussed here in the passed, for example: [url]http://www.dryeyezone.com/talk/showthread.php?11358-Neurontin[/url

The systemic side effects can be quite bad so be careful. I tried it for my Fibromyalgia and Erythromelalgia and I'll never go near the stuff again. But I may have a deficiency of one of the enzymes needed to metabolize it, so I'm not the best example. You may want to check at drugs.com for the side effects that are possible if you haven't checked already.

          Hi Grandmamac,

It will depend on the cause of your dry eye. In instances when dry eye is caused by diabetes, Neurontin might be helpful but is normally prescribed for pain caused by peripheral neuropathy in the legs and arms. Again, depending on the cause of your dry eye, you may want to ask your doctor about using Acular or Nevanac, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drops, which helps with temporal pain relief of irregular and healing corneal surface.

          Hope it helps.

          Sincerely, Irina Ganelis, M.D.
