What's this bump in outer-corner lashline?

For many months now I've had a flesh colored bump at the very outer edge if my upper lashes and a slim part of it actually rests in my eye. It's about 1/5 the size if the top diameter of a pencil eraser and is hard. It's beginning to bother me in that it's making me feel like something is in my eye every time I blink. What could it be? Can it be safely removed? If so, how? Please advise, I'm rather nervous. Thanks.

After doing an online image search this looks like a small chalazion. When I do warm compresses my eyes get redder and my vision is blurry afterward. Should I continue this anyway to hopefully eliminate the chalazion? Is it possible to eliminate it without surgery if its been there for many months already? Any advice? thanks.
