  • Dry eye improvement

    Hiya

havent posted in a while. just wanted to say that for about 3 months now my eyes have been alot better, that is in the day they dont bother me at all, only when i wake up they are still dry. My sinuses have also been feeling good and my eyes have remained like this. I think my sinuses are being helped by the sinus buster. and i think restasis has helped to maintain my good eye feeling becuase i started it when my eyes were feeling better during a sinus infection and they have not returned to there old state, so im sure it is helping. Anyway hope it stays this way. However i am not health problem free i have another problem to do with food intolerance/ibs ever since i went on those antibiotics which was mixed with the huge amount of stress i have had dealing with these problems. I know dry eyes are stressfull but watch out for stress coz you dont want to create over problems!

I am seeing a natropath for ibs etc, and he has opened my eyes to alot of things. My advice to everyone is CHECK your supplements are good quality. The ones ive been on from Holland and barret here in england. i.e the flaxseed oil that i was on Apparently isnt good quality
. he says you get what you pay for with these coz theres no regulation over the quality of them. Hes recommended that i switch to a specialist brand that they use as 'practitioners' you dont need to be on them all the time. If they are bad quality then the effect will take alot longer to achieve if any. Just some advice.

      Sazy,

Thanks for the information. It's great to know you're feeling better. I would agree that quality supplements are imperative.

Keep us posted now and then.

            Great News

            Sazy

I am so pleased to hear that you are getting some improvement and also that you eventually got hold of Restasis.

I am not sure if Restasis is doing anything for me, it is really difficult to tell with all the other things that I am doing as well.

If anything, I think it has helped reduce the inflamation as my eyes don't look as scary as they did a few months ago.

I have only been on it for 2 months so it is probably too early to tell at the moment, the research suggests that you don't actually get any major improvement until about 3 months anyway.

My eyes are certainly better than they were 2 months ago but nowhere near where I want them to be, but any improvement is welcomed in my opinion.

I support your comments about the nutrition, I have been taking Theratears Nutrition that I get through a friend in the states, I read some positive reviews of them on this BB and also other sites.

I would be interested to know the brand of the recommended supplements also.

            I wish you continual improvement.

            Regards
            Ian

Hi he has recommended biocare brand or metabolics brand. Metabolics are very specialised and very good quality. He just recommended omega 3 and 6 containing GLA and fish oil, They are expensive at £17 for 90. They do flaxseed oil as well £11 for 90. you can order them to the states but im sure they have simular companies in the states you just have to find them. Bascially you get what you pay for. generally if they are cheep you have to ask why? Here the high street store Holland and Barret is actually owned by a drug company. Metabolics doesn't have the finacial backing like they do. He says when you go on a true supplement its just like a top up (a course). you dont need to be on it all the time. You can have a break, so its not too expensive when you think of it like that.

              www.metabolics.co.uk

To give you an idea i took my supplements in for him to examine and he said they were better than nothing but they probally wont be doing much good. He is independant of this company he doesnt work for them or anything.

Danny: the sinus buster i use is from www.siunsbuster.com
They messed my order up last time and sent me the mild sinus buster. but have now ordered the clasic sinus buster. My natropath said if anything is going to clear the sinuses its this when i showed it to him yesterday. Due to the hot pepper. I had abit of hayfever and i used it instead of taking an antihistamine which i would of had to do otherwise.

The other thing lately ive been avoided dairy and wheat gluten, i might have an allery until i get tested i dont know but if you have sinus problems cut out dairy all together for a while and see if it makes a difference.

Besides flaxseed i was taking cod liver oil. Apparently a no no something to do with the liver of the fish contaminated (cant remember). GLA which you shouldnt be on for more than 2-3 months. NAC not on at the moment. Those were the ones for my eyes.

But yea deffiantely get specialist supplements which should be kept in the fridge!! they are more pure dont have loads of over stuff added to them that makes a longer shelf life.

Oh off the topic abit but abit of an eye opener, if you can eat organic meat or organic food in general. In normal meat etc due to the poor conditions the animals are in before being slaughtered they are fead loads of antibiotics and pesticides etc to make them live longer and obviously that remains in our food and antibiotics kill of our good bacteria which is vital!! And dont drink milk as your only sauce of calcium. Theres practically no calcium in milk for humans. Its a great source of calcium for new born calves but not for us. Theres more calcium in leafy green vegetables!

Just be wary about supplements - especially seeing as the person recommending them may have other interests/reasons for doing so.

People shouldnt necessarily believe that because something is more expensive that it is always better quality - this is not always the case.

The other problem with supplements is not knowing if they really are having any effect. E.g. I wonder if "pharmacutical grade" oils really are any better, I have been taking Holland & Barrett Flax-Seed oil and am not sure how effective it is in the first place. I only continue to take it 'in case' its really is doing any good. It's therefore tempting to switch over to more expensive, fancier supplements when you're unsure of the effectiveness of your existing one...

Just regarding Holland & Barratt flax seed oil - are you taking the capsules or the liquid? I tried the liquid first as its supposed to be more potent but didnt really feel it was helping much so switched to the capsules. I certainly didnt feel any worse for swopping, but I know what you mean - I often wonder whether it is doing me any good because Ive never had the dramatic improvements that some people have. I honestly cant say if its helping or not. I have switched to the organic flaxseed oil (in a black tub) from Holland & Barratts and although it is a little more expensive Ill give it a go for a while and see how I get on. (I also take a fish oil with EPA alongside the flax).

The problem is that supplements are not regulated - therefore you cannot KNOW for sure that those supplements you pay £50 a tub for are any better, You can be sure youre pockets will be a little lighter though!

You cant be sure but he is a natropath and has had years of experiance with these things. He doesnt work for them they are just what the practitioners use he has probally seen better results with them. The only way is to try a course of them and see if they help. Im sure they would help but the effect would be take longer to achieve thats all. Dont get me wrong im not saying all the ones they do arnt good. Some that i was taking for this problem he said were ok and not to waste my money buying anymore. But others like the flaxseed and cod liver oil and some others he said werent that good quality. For different reasons. Im no expert so i dont know, but what he says makes sense.

Ian: ive sent you a private message about restasis.
