Has anyone ever considered DMSO on the eyelids for mgd?

  • #2
Its used widely in interstitial cystitis for temp replacement of the bladder lining. It is not thought to be a very effective treatment and often is extremely painful as it attacks the lining, stripping it and then causing regrowth. So personally I would not put this on your thin eyelid skin. There are many more bladder lining treatments i.e. sodium hylauronate which is also featuring in current eyedrops. This does not have a stripping action like DMSO which is also used as an industrial cleaner!

Thanks lulu. I have used DMSO on bruises, and it works, but a little afraid to try it around the eyes. Years ago I had a broken blood vessel in the eye, and I jokingly told the eye doctor I would like to put DMSO in my eye. He laughed and said the only reason the drug industry hasn't marketed it is because it is dirt cheap. Did not know about bladder lining. It is interesting they use a bladder lining treatment in eye drops. So much to learn.
