Too much oil?

Is it possible to be producing too much oil from the glands in the eyelids? I was just wondering because I have been doing warm compresses for several weeks and lately whenever I do so, my eyes seem to get soaked in a thicker-than-water clear "oil" and it seems to actually cause irritation. My eyes seemed more comfortable before.

I get the same thing, especially if the compress is very hot. But I actually have about the same sensation at times during the day. It's my primary "dry eye" symptom: sensation of an oily film being on my eye. I think the theory with the compress is that all that goop is backed up in your glands and comes out with the compress. I don't know if I'm totally convinced, but it's worth a shot.

I think there is a delicate balance btwn all three, and when one is off it causes irritation.
