lacriserts?? Your Opinions?

I've been reading people's opinons on lacriserts as well as their website.

I was wondering if anybody who is on them currently have foudn relief?

I am having to put in drops every 15 mins (they don't feel dry, but my veins flare up, which tells me they are dry)

It would be nice to have all day comfort and not have to put in drops every 15 mins or so.

Disn't do a thing for me. They didn't dissolve in my eyes. If I put in drops they seemed a little better. I finally gave up since I found absolutely no relief.

You can search DEZ for "lacriserts". I believe Willwork4tears uses them.

I've used them. In fact ordered a few boxes of them and they are gathering dust now. At first, I thought it was providing some moisture along with a cold sensation. Then within 5 or 6 hours my eyes felt drier. They felt drier because the lacrisert had done all it could and had grown to a blob of gel under my eyelid, thus reducing space for natural tears to flow into. Upon removing the large 'after gel' effect, my eyes felt much better. I've tried two and even three lacriserts in each eye. They don't work well enough for me.

I'm not confident lacriserts will work for me, neither is my ophthalmologist. She is having me try them very briefly (less than 2 wks) to see if they do anything. She hasn't had many people who actually benefitted from them. I'm trying them to satisfy insurance company before eval. for PROSE sclerals. If they cause a problem, she said of course, stop using them. She said that when you put one in, you need to put at least 2 drops of artificial tears with them (wait a minute between drops). She said that helps them to begin to dissolve. She said initially they do swell up, but then as they liquify, they go down in size. She said how long they last varies, range of 12 - 24 hrs with most patients. Since I use ointment at night in both eyes, she said to insert it when I wake up, if it does help, it will work during the day. I'm trying one in my R eye, since the L is very very fragile, and has bandage contact lens inserted because of erosions. I will keep you posted.

I've decided that when I go into my follow up in July and things haven't gotten any better I will asking doctor about them and have a try at them, if they don't work, then they don't work.

I have used them briefly but my drug plan doesn't cover them and the cost is $265 per month...yikes. They did help a bit as when I went to my Dr last week the tear breakup time on the non treated eye was 4 and the lacrisert eye was 5. Can't say as it was dramatic but every little bit helps. My biggest beef with them is that everytime I touch the bottom of my eye, usually accidentally or reflex they pop out and you are not supposed to put them back in. Great $4.50 down the drain...think I'll take up smoking, it'll be cheaper...F/G

Having said that does anyone know where to get them MUCH cheaper? as I can order out of the US.

Lacrisert work for me

I started using them at age 34 and have been using them now for 9 years.

I'm happy as ever with them. I guess it depends what the problem is and your lifestyle. I really like to be outside, and I think they change my tear stability big time for the better. I can sit out there with my green/blue eyes staring at the sun surfing in salty tropical water as long as my dark eyed/dark skinned white eyed friends.

It helped me go through a hard time.
At first time it didn't work, i tried it again after one month and after wearing it my eyes stop feeling pain.
It is a miracle for me when I'm so desperate and in pain.
Ps my dry eye is mainly aqueous deficiency which produce very few tear.

I hope lacrisert can help you as well.

I have to say that they have worked better for me than plugs or Restatis. With that said, I will add that they are not easy to use (and this is still my first month). I don't use them every day to save money and because I think my eyes are better for 48-72 hours after I use a pair. It just may be my imagination. In the morning it takes me a while to put them in as they keep popping out until they soak up some tears and get thicker. Also, during that time, they feel very irritating. So then I have a few good hours. I often feel a little irritation in the afternoon and forget and rub my eyes. That creates a mess, like a Jelly fish stuck to my cornea. Today I worked hard not to rub my eye and they stayed in from 7 this morning until about 7 PM and I think they have come out. So I will stick with them for a while, trying to use them at half the rate (every other day or every third day) to save some money. I will be scleral lens on the back burner for now.
