  • Looking for Advice - on Ocular Rosacea

I posted a couple of days ago in regards to Ocular Rosacea. I had Lasik surgery done in January and have been treated for dry eye with all of the normal stuff, plugs, restasis, drops, Azasite, etc.

I just returned from a doctor's apt. and was told that I have been misdiagnosed and actually have Ocular Rosacea. It seems that everything I read about this condition, is that is doesn't go away and difficult to treat.

I have been hanging on to the hope that my dry eyes would get better down the road after Lasik, but now feeling hopeless if I do have Ocular Rosacea and will be living with this pain forever. I would love to hear what has helped others and if they manage through this condition.

    Thank you for any advice.

I would go to a dermatologist to confirm the rosacea diagnosis. If it's on your face then it's most likely in your eyes too. I have ocular rosacea myself. Some people get much better with doxycycline. Flaxseed (1000 mg 3X-4X/day), fish oil. Warm compresses can be helpful but some people find their eyelids get inflamed and it causes more irritation. It's ,unfortunately, all trial and error to see what works for you specifically.

I have been diagnosed with ocular rosacea and blepharitis. My face is under control with doxycycline and metrogel. My dermatologist even asked me if my opthamologist was certain I had ocular rosacea and sent me for blood work to rule out some autoimmune disorders. The condition is worse in my right eye. I finally was able to get an appt. with a corneal specialist as my opthamologist was "stumped" on how to proceed. I have been going to him for 2 years now. I have recurrent corneal erosions and map dot fingerprint dystrophy so I am scheduled for laser surgery in a couple of weeks. The new doctor has ordered more blood work as she wants to try and get to the bottom of the cause. I am beginning to really wonder if I do have ocular rosacea. I am interested to find out the results of the blood work. My opthamologist tried all of the things your doctor did also. I am not certain the "misdiagnosis" would have changed the treatment plan.

Yes please, LindaLa. I'm not even sure what autoimmune disorders to test for.

I started Oracea last week. I actually don't have facial rosacea - but my mother and grandfather both had it pretty bad. I also do the Fish Oils and cold compresses to keep eye lids inflammation down. I rarely use eye drops as I don't think they help. Eye doctor suggested even looking at contacts to act as a barrier for my eyes. Anyone have success with that or heard of using contacts?
