I think the best we can expect from that research is some medicine which tries to do the something as restasis (stop chronic inflammation), but works better than restasis.
I am considering even contacting Liu and asking him for any assistance he would require for the research, monetary or otherwise. I would be willing to help out in whatever way I can, personally.
I want to say thanks, Hemu. This is interesting. One of the things I love about this forum is the smart people on it and how they keep me aware of new possibilities. If you contact Dr. Liu re: assistance for the research whether it be money or test subjects, please post it here or pm me.. I'd help!
Very interesting. Dr. Tseng’s work (Prokera/amniotic membrane), utilizes the placenta and Dr. Hongshan Lui’s research is based on mesenchymal stem cells from the umbilical cord, with both approaches hoping to suppress the inflammatory and immune responses of the eye.
Sounds promising. The disadvantage with the stem cell study is any treatment will likely take many years to hit the market. But Dr. Tseng's amniotic membrane is avaialble NOW (only if you see him, so is still restricted in terms of availability). Isn't there debate whether amniotic membrane/Prokera or AMX drops can assist increasing tear production and meibum secretions? They assist ocular damage/inflammation, but so do tears, and it's the TEARS we want, and the meibum to prevent the tears from evaporating.
