  • I have Blepharitis, how to fix?

First of all, I read that Blepharitis is not curable, is this true? Why is that? It's an eye problem where your eye pores or something are clogged right? Once you use warm compresses and clear them up why do they clog up by itself once you stop treating it?

Ok well on to my problem. I went to the doctor and I found out I have Blepharitis. The doctor said my pores are clogged up so there's no oil in my eyes so when I use drops or yawn to get tears, the tears evaporate really quick and don't stay in my eyes. I do notice this happening more now. When I use drops, they feel fine for a few minutes and back to dry. Some treatments the doctor recommended was to use drops 4 times a day. The special drops where it has oil in them and are milky white when you use them and not clear, wash my eye lids with baby shampoo and water and put warm compresses on my eyes 3 times a day. So do I have to do all this annoying stuff for the rest of my life??? And to just treat my eyes; not even cure it? Do I have any hope in turning back to normal? And why caused this issue, I had it back in the beginning of January. Did it just occur by itself?

http://www.dryeyezone.com/ Here is the DryEyeZone info site link to help you with your questions. Rebecca's excellent blog is full of the latest research.

You will see that many doctors think the detergent in baby shampoo may be doing more harm than good, unless there's an obvious sebaceous skin problem, so most people use ophthalmic formulated eyelid cleaning products or just boiled warm water. Your eyes will be much more sensitive now.

For the eyes to heal, we have to keep them clean, keep the glands in the eyelid margins moving, and make sure the eye surface doesn't dry out or get stressed.

Plenty of people fix or manage their blepharitis - we have to work out what makes things better/worse, everyone's different with different causes. You were saying your eyes dried out staring at the computer?

I'm not sure if my eyes dried out from staring at the computer or my eyes were already getting dry eye and it got worse from using the computer. I don't really have "next" doctor appointment, I have to schedule one if I need to go.

        Dear Romeodakins,
I was able to kill Blepharits. It is only because a friend did so first. Her Blepharitis moved up onto her eyelids. She used an antibacterial facial scrub that killed. I could not find the product any longer so I looked on line to see what other products had Benzethonium Chloride in it. That was what was in the facial scrub. I ended up using WET ONES, antibacterial hand wipes, in the red box.
I tore each one into 8 sections. I used 2 on each eyelash area 4 times a day for a week and a half. I then went down to 3 times a day (as eyes felt so much better) for a month. After that, I went down to 2 times a day for several months. Once or twice it itched after that and I jumped on it with the wipes for a day or two. It then was gone for good.
I had Blepharitis for over 6 months and tried everything the Dr. said. Shampoo and 3 times antibiotics for the eyes. When my friend said she killed it I went crazy trying to find the product.
This may sound too easy and too cheap but it worked for me. Please remember that 2 people using 2 different products both with Benzethonium Chloride killed this off.
I do use eye drops for lubrication and the Dr. said to use Flax and Fish Oil Capsules. He also said to use a warm ( I do hot) rag on the eyes in the morning to get things going.
The relief is unbelievable when I started using these. It does take a long time to kill the Blepharitis as I think it is deep into those eyelashes.
        Hope this information helps you.

Did the wipes only help to get rid of the debris on your eyelashes? A new doctor says my eyelashes have no debris in it and they seem normal. My problem is that my oil glands are too thick and they can't secrete enough oil on the surface of my eyes.

            Dear Romeodakins,

I did not have anything on my eyelashes except itching. Blepharitis is a bacterial infection. These wipes could not have killed it is wasn't bacterial. Research on the internet shows it to be bacterial too.
I have used the WET ONES on a friend in a rest home whose eyes were just gunky and itching her. I tried water and the wipes took care of the yellow gunk quickly and stopped the itching. I use them each time I go see her and she is doing great now. You can try the wipes and see if they help. Can you rub them on where the gland opens onto the eye? It took a long time to kill Blepharitis because it is in the roots of the eyelashes and had to be tenacious.
You will know within a week or two if it is doing anything to help it. Some people tell me within days they can tell.
I would research the eye on the internet and learn all I could about the glands. If you can access one opening of it this could perhaps start the killing of the Blepharitis.
All I can tell you it did help my friend with the yellow gunky stuff and was killing it. I do know that Blepharitis does migrate to other areas as my friend's Blepharitis moved up onto her eyelids.
Hope this little bit of info helps.
            Wish you some relief soon.

                I used AZASITE 1% OPHTH SOLUTION 2.5ML I did 2 refills. I used these in 2012.

Before that, I had used DOXYCYCLINE HYCLATE 100MG capsules. I was on that for a month and noticed that my eyes were better. I was on it to stop from getting RA. I had cut my hand with a beef dog food lid and had begun to get arthritis in one finger then another and then another. I grabbed the newspaper article on the subject and took it to the Dr. and he gave me a month's supply of antibiotic as only had symptoms for only about 10 days.

After that cleared up I noticed my eyes were better. I thought my wrinkled retina was better. I did not know I had Blepharitis. Dr. said that medicine works on Blepharitis. I asked for antibiotics to try in the eye.

I would have had better success if I had put them on my eyelashes, I thought. The cost would have been too much to use that for months.

My friend killed it with that facial scrub and the rest is history for me as found something else that had Benzethonium Chloride in it. There are other products with Benzethonium Chloride in them. I just used what I had that was in my home already. It was also very easy to use as in a wipe format.

I had actually tried rubbing alcohol but kept getting into my eyes so gave that one up. This find was out of desperation for 2 people.

                  Hi Lynda
I have suffered from severe blepharitis for 6 years, and was told that it was because of ocular rosacea. During this period of time I saw three different optometrists and two ophthalmologists who tried Azasite (moderate relief, too costly to continue, returned quickly after cessation), oral doxy (no help whatsoever), ristasis (mild relief), and erythromycin ointment (made it worse). Because my dx was rosacea, I researched triggers and avoided them for months. No caffeine, hot beverages, iced beverages, alcoholic beverages, or spicy foods. (No difference) Through this whole time, I religiously completed lid hygiene with baby shampoo and OTC lid wipes (Systane) and used OTC preservative free moisture drops. My career is in healthcare leadership, and I have to face people daily and look professional and well groomed. You wouldn't imagine the emotional distress these red, sick-looking eyes and lids caused me. It has been unimaginable torture.
I have now sustained my longest and truest period of relief. Lasting five days now. Amazing. All because I, for the hundredth time, began searching the internet for something, anything! This time I left out ocular rosacea from my keywords and just concentrated on blephariris. I found one post that was intriguing, and another, and another...WET ONES ON MY EYELIDS? I was desperate. I tried it. 14 days ago. My lids are down to 10% of the swelling they had been for years, and the whites of my eyes are, well, WHITE.
IT HAS BEEN WORKING! I can't tell you how thankful I am that you spread this word far and wide across the internet, otherwise I would have never tried it. And the other gal that it worked for, too.
This is a terrible disease with what seemed to be no cure. I have spent thousands of dollars on different make up products, medications, doctor visits, hair colors that I hoped would attract others' eyes away from mine, and glasses to hide behind. This is a 20$ cure.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!

                    Hi,
I am glad this is working for you. It will not work for everyone as there are different types of bacterial problems. Mine was like yours and it worked. I am so grateful my friend used that antibacterial facial scrub.
Please don't use too big a section of the wipes as will dry out the skin. I used only a small piece on my fingertips.
You can use mascara as you kill this. If you did not see that information let me know.
I have learned that after it is all gone that I can never go back to using makeup the traditional way. I will always have to use a throw away wand for mascara. I use only 1 now on two eyes as Blepharitis is gone. I think that the dry eye problem can't take any bacteria from mascara or eye shadow. I went back to double dipping into the mascara and started itching within a week. It took me 24 hours to kill it again. Never doing that again. This is to be a way of life being careful. Dry eyes don't wash things out as a normal person does.
I am very grateful that you took the time to let me know. It did work for me and thought I would let others know.

MINERAL OIL Sensitivity- the Cause of my Blepharitis and MGD

MINERAL OIL Sensitivity- Caused Seboreic dermatitis on my scalp, of which a trip to the dermatologist and some doxycycline for 6 weeks combined with Enteric coated Garlic Capsules and some ketoconazole shampoo

Cured the inflammation and dry skin.

                          Google eye care cosmetics.
They do great mascaras that you might be able to wear.

                            Dear LaDiva,
I had anterior Blepharitis as in my eyelashes. The post above (sgoodmanrtur) said she had that one.
                            It drove me crazy.
