  • Stem cells therapy in a decade

Don't you think that bad nerves regrew or other corneal neuralgie will be cure in a decade by stem cell therapy? I really think that sooner than we think , it will be a cure for that. They have already cure blind people , and we know that stem cell can replace all the cells in our body so.. why not nerves?

Has anyone had any stem cell therapy for your eyes? Step cell therapy is used to treat nerve pain is other areas besides the eyes; and there are stem cells are used to treat other conditions for the eye. Im wondering if either it didnt show any promise to stop eye pain or just that there hasnt been any research due to lack of interest or funds.

Waterbee, MGD may be even worse, since at least they offer Amniotic Membrane for corneal erosion.

Speak of which, why is Lidocaine used for lid probing instead of AM which has way more healing factors?

Seems to me lidocaine belongs in the dark ages by comparison.

An even better option would be MSCs -plus- platlet-rich plasma

        So why not?

the logical side of this is, that as more poeple get dry eye (and it seems to be increasing and younger poeple too) the more money there is to be made from finding a cure for it, the dry eye market is now worth billions (restasis is worth one billion a year and thats just ONE drug) and if you find that cure, that money is all yours and more. the market will grow to be worth 4 billion in size in the next ten years- So yes, there are lots of scientists at this very point in time looking at dry and and how to fix it, trying to beat its competitors and with new science and everything they are leaning about it, that day will arrive one day. (even if that does mean adding drops or taking a drug everyday as a "cure")

And btw, I've been to a prestigious doctor who has been touted around here (prefer omitting names) and that doctor naturally is too elitist to answer my logical questions. So if they don't deign to answer questions, then where does one turn to for answers?

Im not sure why you are comparing lidocaine and amniotic membrane as they are used for entirely different reasons. Lidocaine is used as an anesthetic otherwise the probing procedure would be too painful. Wouldnt the question be why isnt amniotic membrane used in addition to lidocaine when probing, after the procedure?

MGD30, sorry for this delay (I just now noticed that someone actually responded to my post! I'm not used to it.

Anyway... I guess if it's in preserv.free gel form it can't harm, though the true acid test is to ask other patients.

As for the A.Membrane, indeed it would be wonderful if the AMX drops (by Dr.Ghinelli in Italy) would for once & for all be approved by the NPD of the f//d//a so that they can be injected via the ****** cannulla's after probing.

It might make sense to wait until the steroid drops plus lidocaine all "wear-off" and any after effects die down, at which time, AMX-injections might help to regenerate the internal ducts. It makes sense to broach the topic with Dr.******, if anyone here has direct access to him.

In my case, my glands are so crookedly-winding (like spaghetti) that the P.A. told me that lid is approx. 25% functional, and my other is approx. 50% functional. So...to probe or not to probe - that is the question. Is it safe to probe such tangled glands? Given the windingness further up, my doctor is nervous about using anything longer than 2mm. Should he be? I've no idea, because channels of communication are very poor, due to its partial success rate, as well as pain experienced by some patients.
